“And does Alpha Kaelos follow rules?”
“Well, yeah, but he makes rules—”
“Does he follow Pack traditions? Show respect to Elders? Abide by inter-Pack agreements?”
Jake shifted uncomfortably. “I guess.”
“Why do you think that is? If he's strongest, why doesn't he just do whatever he wants?”
Long pause. “Because... because being strong isn't just about physical power?”
“Explain.”
“Being strong means... using your power to protect people? Not just to get your own way?”
“Exactly,” I said. “Real strength, Alpha strength, comes from choosing to use power responsibly. Anyone can break rules. It takes real strength to follow them when it serves the greater good.”
