Lily’s POV
Everything happened so fast.
Mia charged at me like a storm, her face twisted with pure rage. “You b***h!” she screamed again, her voice echoing through the empty classroom. Before I could react, her hand shot out and grabbed a fistful of my hair, yanking hard.
Pain exploded across my scalp. I cried out, instinctively grabbing her wrist to try and loosen her grip. “Mia, stop!”
But she didn’t. She pulled harder, dragging me forward. “You stole him! You spread your fat legs for him in here like a w***e! I saw everything!”
We stumbled into one of the desks, knocking it over with a loud crash. I tried to push her away, but she was fueled by pure jealousy and betrayal. Her free hand slapped at my face, catching my cheek. I shoved back, desperation giving me strength. We fell to the floor in a tangled mess of limbs and uniforms, pulling hair, scratching, and shouting.
“You’ve always hated me!” I cried, tears streaming down my face as I tried to protect myself. “Why can’t you just leave me alone?!”
“Because he’s mine!” she screamed back, her nails digging into my arm. “Not yours! Never yours!”
The fight was chaotic and ugly. Desks scraped across the floor. Our voices echoed. I tasted blood in my mouth from a split lip. Mia was relentless, driven by years of resentment and fresh jealousy.
The door burst open again. Two teachers and the vice principal rushed in, pulling us apart. “Enough! Both of you principal’s office now!”
The principal’s office felt like a courtroom. Mia and I sat on opposite sides of the room, both disheveled hair messy, uniforms torn, faces scratched. Lucian stood outside with some other students who had heard the commotion.
Mia didn’t waste any time. The moment the principal asked what happened, she launched into her accusation with fake tears in her eyes.
“She stole my boyfriend!” Mia sobbed dramatically. “Lucian was mine first. Lily has always been jealous of me. She seduced him. I caught them having s*x in the classroom just now! They were all over each other. It’s disgusting!”
The principal’s eyes widened. Teachers whispered. My face burned with humiliation.
I tried to defend myself through tears. “It’s not true… We were just kissing. Mia attacked me first. She’s been bullying me for years because of my body. She hates me.”
But Mia was convincing. She cried harder, playing the victim perfectly. “She’s lying. She’s always trying to take what’s mine.”
After what felt like hours of questioning, the principal made his decision.
“Both of you are suspended. Two weeks for fighting and inappropriate behavior on school grounds. Lily, your punishment is slightly reduced to one week due to evidence of provocation and Lucian’s statement supporting your side. But this behavior is unacceptable. Your parents will be notified.”
I begged. I cried. I explained everything I could without revealing too much. Lucian spoke up for me outside the office, telling the principal that Mia had been harassing me for months. His influence helped soften my punishment, but it wasn’t enough. One week of suspension.
Mia got two full weeks.
As we left the office, Mia shot me a venomous look. “This isn’t over,” she whispered. “You’ll pay for this.”
*****
The walk home from school felt like the longest journey of my life. My body ached from the fight with Mia my scalp still tender where she had pulled my hair, my cheek stinging from her slap, and my heart shattered into pieces. The one week suspension the principal had given me felt like a death sentence. But I had no idea that the real punishment was waiting for me at home.
Mom was already at the door when we arrived. Mia had called her on the way, crying dramatically the entire time. As soon as we stepped inside, Mia burst into tears again, throwing herself into Mom’s arms.
“Mom!” she sobbed, her voice breaking perfectly. “Lily tried to steal Lucian from me…! I caught them in the classroom. She was all over him. She’s been trying to snatch my boyfriend behind my back for weeks. I couldn’t take it anymore…”
Tears streamed down Mia’s face real looking water drops that made her look like the victim. She clung to Mom, shaking with “heartbreak.” “She’s always been jealous of me. Of my body, my popularity… and now she wants Lucian too. I love him, Mom. And she’s trying to destroy that.”
I stood there frozen, my mouth dry. “Mom, that’s not true. Mia attacked me first. She’s been bullying me for years because of how I look. Lucian and I… we were just talking”
Mom’s eyes turned to me, filled with disappointment and anger. “Enough, Lily. Mia is your sister. She wouldn’t lie about something like this.”
Mia cried harder, burying her face in Mom’s shoulder. “She’s ruining everything for me. Please make her stop. I can’t lose Lucian because of her.”
Mom stroked Mia’s hair gently, then turned to me with a stern expression. “Lily, if you still want to be my daughter, you will stay away from Lucian. Do you understand? I won’t have this kind of behavior in my house fighting over boys, sneaking around, acting like… like that. Mia is clearly hurting. You need to respect your sister.”
I felt tears welling up in my own eyes. “Mom… please. You don’t understand. Mia has been tormenting me for so long. The things she says about my body, the way she treats me”
“Stop making excuses!” Mom cut me off sharply. “Your suspension was one week from school. At home, it’s two weeks. You can’t go to school without your twin sister since you caused this. No going out. No contact with Lucian. And you will apologize to your sister.”
Mia lifted her head just enough to look at me over Mom’s shoulder. For a split second, her tears stopped and a wicked, satisfied smile curved her lips. It was gone so fast I almost thought I imagined it. But I saw it. She had won again. She always won.
“Yes, Mom,” I whispered, my voice breaking. “I’m sorry.”
Mom nodded, satisfied. “Good. Now go to your room. Both of you. And Lily I mean it. Stay away from that boy if you want to remain part of this family.”
I walked to our room like a zombie, my chest tight with pain. Mia followed behind me, her footsteps light and victorious. As soon as the door closed, her fake tears vanished completely.
“You really thought you could have him?” she whispered, her voice dripping with triumph. “He’s mine. And I’ll destroy anyone who tries to take him from me. Even you.”
I didn’t respond. I just climbed into my bed, pulled the covers over my head, and cried silently. Two weeks at home. No Lucian. No escape from Mia. Mom had taken her side completely, as she always did when it came to her “perfect” slim daughter versus the “problematic” fat one.
The distance between Lucian and me felt permanent now. I had lost him. I had lost everything.
How much longer was I going to let Mia control my life?
I’m tired…..
