Chapter 10
The next morning, I walked into school with a strange mix of fear and warmth still lingering from Lucian’s touch. Every step reminded me of him the way he had held me, the deep thrusts that had made me forget everything else for a while. But the look on Mia’s face at the end of the hallway yesterday haunted me more.
She knew.
I kept my head down as usual, but the atmosphere in the hallways felt heavier. Whispers followed me again, but they were different this time. More curious than cruel.
“Did you hear? The fat twin is hooking up with Lucian?”
“No way. Mia’s going to lose it.”
I reached my locker and froze. The new insults were gone, but someone had left a single red rose with a note attached. My heart skipped as I opened it.
Last night was perfect. Can’t stop thinking about you. Meet me after class? – L
A small smile tugged at my lips despite everything. I quickly hid the note in my bag before anyone could see.
The day passed in nervous anticipation. In Literature class, Lucian sat a few rows behind me. I could feel his eyes on me the entire time. When the teacher turned to the board, he sent a quick text:
You look beautiful today. Those curves in that uniform are driving me crazy.
I blushed hard, typing back a shy reply. For a few hours, it felt like we were in our own little world.
Then Mia noticed.
I saw the exact moment it happened. During lunch, Lucian walked over to my table openly and sat across from me. He didn’t hide it. He even reached across to brush a strand of hair from my face.
Mia was sitting with her group a few tables away. Her eyes locked on us like lasers. Her smile dropped completely. The jealousy on her face was raw and ugly.
She stood up abruptly, knocking her chair back. The whole cafeteria went quiet as she marched over to our table.
“What the actual f**k is this?” she hissed, loud enough for everyone nearby to hear. “You’re really choosing her over me, Lucian? This fat, pathetic excuse for a twin?”
Lucian’s expression hardened. “Mia, stop. This has nothing to do with you.”
“Everything about her has to do with me!” Mia’s voice rose, trembling with rage. “She’s my sister. She knows how I feel about you. And she still spread her legs for you like a desperate w***e!”
Gasps and whispers erupted around us. My face burned with humiliation. I wanted the ground to swallow me whole.
“Mia, please…” I whispered, tears stinging my eyes.
She turned on me, her voice dripping venom. “You think you’ve won? Just because he f****d you once? You’re nothing, Lily. A disgusting, curvy mistake. I’ll make sure everyone knows what a slut you are.”
Lucian stood up, positioning himself between us. “That’s enough. Leave her alone.”
Mia laughed bitterly, but there were tears in her eyes too. Real pain mixed with the hate. “You’ll regret this. Both of you.”
She stormed off, her friends trailing behind her like loyal soldiers. The damage was done. The entire school was talking now.
The rest of the day was miserable. People stared. Some laughed. A few girls whispered “homewrecker” as I passed. My small group of friends tried to comfort me, but the damage was deep.
After the final bell, I went to the old oak tree to hide. Lucian found me there a few minutes later.
“I’m sorry,” he said, pulling me into his arms. “I shouldn’t have been so open. I just… I’m tired of hiding how I feel about you.”
I cried against his chest. “She’s never going to stop, Lucian. She hates me too much.”
He kissed the top of my head. “We’ll face it together.”
But as we held each other, I noticed a girl standing a short distance away, watching us. She was beautiful slim, with long dark hair and sharp features. I didn’t recognize her from our school.
She smiled when Lucian looked up, but it didn’t reach her eyes.
“Who is that?” I whispered.
Lucian tensed. “That’s Sophia. My childhood friend. She just transferred here… to be closer to me she always talk about how she missed me also .”
The way he said it made my stomach twist. The way she was looking at him it was clear she still had feelings for him from their past.
