Chapter 5

1368 Words
Remembering how she had broken up with David, Cindy laughed out inside her bathroom, as that was the first time any of her boyfriends had asked her for such a thing. When she had told her best friend Lora Adams in school then, Lora's mother owned a private polytechnic, and Lora told her it wasn't bad and that most lovers did it. Cindy couldn't believe what Lora said, because Lora was the only child of her single mother. Lora had told her then that a lot of ladies sucked on their boyfriends' manhood and that it was an old culture to keep their relationships sweet. "Gross! And you expected me to do that? I'm sure David is cheating on me," Cindy remembered her response to Lora, and she shook her head in her bathroom as she washed her face. "Calm down, girlfriend. If you love David enough, then you won't be shy to do that with him," Lora had replied to her. "No, no. I cannot. And I can never do that," Cindy replied, remembering her subtle banter on the phone call with Lora. Cindy finally walked out of her bathroom, dried her wet body with a white towel, and went to pick out the nightgown she would wear, as night had fallen. Cindy wore a light, milk-colored nightgown and stepped out of her room, going downstairs to have dinner with her mother. She could see her mother sitting on the living room couch, waiting for her. Mrs. Bola stood up from the couch and walked to the dining room to sit. Soon, Esther stepped out from the kitchen and served their dinner, as well as bowls of water for them to wash their hands, before she sat beside Mrs. Bola. Cindy sighed as she sat across from her mother and Esther. When Cindy was about to eat the delicious okra soup in front of her, her mother said, "Bless the meal, Cindy." Cindy frowned and stared at her mom and Esther. She finally blessed the meal, and they started eating. Mrs. Bola didn't say anything to Cindy even after their dinner ended. She knew she had failed in training Cindy properly as a mother. Raising a child wasn't easy. Mrs. Bola thought to advise Cindy regarding marrying Jeremy Lukeman. She decided to allow Cindy to rest first and prepare to meet with Jeremy the following Sunday, since the notice came late to them. Cindy had been in many failed relationships, and Mrs. Bola knew it, because the relationships were all arranged. Now, she was determined to speak to Cindy, as she wanted her daughter to settle down on time and give her grandchildren. Mrs. Bola had allowed Cindy to start dating men at the age of 20. Now, she thought it best to agree with her husband on the arranged marriage since Cindy's arrogance with the men she had dated was too much. Mrs. Bola knew that with Cindy being a woman, it might affect her daughter's relationships if Cindy continued with her cold and aloof nature with men. Most men want a caring and sweet woman, not a brutal, strict young lady like her daughter. Mrs. Bola sighed as she finished eating and washed her hands. Cindy and Esther did the same. However, Cindy stood up from the dining seat and said to her mother, "Goodnight, Mom." "Goodnight, dear. But you haven't cleared your plate to the kitchen, Cindy. Remember, Esther isn't a maid," Mrs. Bola reminded Cindy, and she paused and stared back at her mother. "Alright, Mom," Cindy said, in a good mood. She walked up to the dining table and cleared her used plate and bowl of water to the kitchen. Cindy finally walked out of the kitchen and went upstairs to her room to rest, because she wanted to chat with her best friend Lora Adams. Lora's birthday was the following day, and Cindy knew all of Lora's birthdays were celebrated at Lora's mother's home. As they had been friends for five years since university. Lora's mother was a single mom, and after their graduation, Lora had decided to join her mother in teaching at her polytechnic instead of going out to search for a job. Because Lora had studied mathematics while Cindy was a law student. Cindy remembered when she met Lora. Although Lora was a year ahead of her in school, they were age mates, and she had accepted to become Lora's friend after Lora asked her out and spoke to her first. Lora was very friendly and had a lot of friends, compared to Cindy, who was mostly aloof and hardly interacted with anyone. Mrs. Bola stood up from the dining table and went to her room to rest, as she was home alone in the big house. She decided to watch her bedroom television and check any dating websites where she might make new friends. Mrs. Bola remembered the handsome young man she had seen at the market place, whom she had approached and tried to propose to become his friend. Cheating on her husband wasn't in her dictionary, however Mrs. Bola couldn't bring herself to speak the truth about her feelings to the man. When she did, he rejected her even after she promised to pay him a huge sum to become her sugar boy. Mrs. Bola was living a lonely life and hated the fact that her husband was being transferred from one state to another. She had only Cindy as her only child, and she knew she wasn't infertile. As her family doctor had told her that she and her husband were fine. Just that, it was just difficult for them to conceive on just one s****l meeting. Mrs. Bola feared her husband might have a baby mama somewhere, but her husband hadn't raised the topic of remarrying even after their family members did. Mr. Donald William was more focused on his business and being a commissioner. And though he knew his wife wanted more babies, it wasn't his fault or hers, and he accepted and willed all his assets to Cindy. Mrs. Bola controlled the company while her husband worked in the police department, and her daughter worked as a barrister. Mrs. Bola sighed and got engaged in surfing the internet and her social media page, to see if she could meet any new friends online. ******** Cindy later retired to her bedroom and walked up to her bed to sit, continuing to think about the handsome young man she had seen earlier that day. She rolled on her bed and said, "What if I don't get to see him again?" Cindy frowned and said, "Gosh! I just wish I can and will get to see the man again. Maybe I should just go back to that shopping mall and pretend like I want to buy something there tomorrow. That way, we can obviously meet again, and I will ask him out. But he stinks..." Cindy remembered her reason for insulting the man and frowned again, biting her lower lip as she thought of contacting Lora and telling her about her heart's disturbance. Seeing that her room wall clock time was almost 10 pm, Cindy murmured, "No... How do I explain to Lora that I had fallen in love with a poor, wretched man? She is going to laugh at me in that silly, cracking laughter. No, I cannot." Cindy shook her head and, after much contemplation, dropped her phone on her bed, as she knew Lora would be preparing for her birthday celebration the following day. Cindy sighed and decided to surf the internet and check her social media page to see if she had any new friend requests. Cindy had many followers, as she uploaded more cute, charming pictures of herself. Some silly men admired her photos as she dressed in mostly fitted wear, as she didn't usually wear seductive clothes. Cindy pouted her lips, as she was not interested in her new online friends. She was only interested in one man. "Oh, ho!" Cindy cussed as she finally dropped her phone back in her bed drawer and walked back to her bathroom to urinate. She stepped out and retire to sleep.
