Chapter Two

Lily’s POV
Cool breeze filled the room, as I tossed and turned on my bed, at this point sleep was nowhere to be found-only my eyes drifting towards the ceiling as my thoughts refused to rest.
I had spent my entire day with heavy thoughts and a wandering mind, and finally concluded that all my overthinking hasn’t even solved the situation at hand; rather, I am still in my own misery.
At this point, the heavy rain had begun to ease, leaving a gentle drizzle that tapped slowly against the closed windows. The storm outside had already calmed down, but I could feel my heart sinking into my stomach.
I pulled my blanket closer covering my entire body.
Hmmm… “ I took a deep breath and yawned as I rubbed my eyes and stretched my arms”.
Before I knew it, I had fallen asleep exhausted by my anxiety

Ding…. Dong…. Ding… Dong
I stood up from my bed with my eyes half open, half closed. And my legs were too weak to even hold my body
Ding!!!
Opening my room door, wondering who would visit so early in the morning, I opened my bedroom door.
The room felt unusually calm.
“Ma’am, someone is asking to see you”, the maid informed me from the doorway.
I stood up from my bed, walking into the living room as I saw a man standing behind the door
“Good morning”,I said, squinting my eyes.
From Ethan Lockwood… “ the young man said placing a large box in my hand, as he turned without saying any other thing ”.
Ohh please… “ I called out, but he didn’t turn back”.
How rude… I said
Handing over the box to the maid standing next to me.
The door opened again, and I turned back, but this time it was Tessa.
Tessa…. “ I opened my arms as I embraced her with a warm hug”.
Don’t tell me you haven’t prepared yet?
I furrowed my brows, and confusion filled my face
“Prepared for what?”. I asked as my body began to feel unease
Your wedding… Lily, Tessa said as she looked at me from up to down as she looked at the big box the maid had in her hand.
Ohh my
I totally forgot…. “Sweat filled my palm”
“And what’s that?” …. She said pointing at the box
Ohh from Ethan lock…
“Ethan Lockwood!” … without allowing the sentence to be complete, she dragged me by my hand and the maid followed us, as we went into my room.
Tessa…. Wait
Without wasting any time, we entered my room, as Tessa placed the big box on my bed, and she began to loosen the neatly tied pink ribbon.
Her eyes widened.
“Ohh my gosh Lily”… she said, placing her hand on her lips as it was wide open.
“Wait”
“ Don’t tell me that you forgot today is your wedding”
Ohh how can I forget this devastating day… “ as I lowered my head”
These are so gorgeous.. Lily,
As we both looked at the well-folded white gown, with sparkling delicate lace, and tiny bright crystals that shine like the morning light. Still inside the box were two little boxes, one bigger than the other. Tessa opened the smaller ones.
Are these real diamonds…. Lily. At this point, her hands weren’t steady anymore, as though something unbelievable had happened.
“Lily”…. She called out, still somehow unable to speak.
Just want you to know, that I'm sure you would be happy.
Never…, Tessa.
I would never be, and I'm not wearing any of this nonsense.
You won’t do that, you know this is going to get him really mad… she said
I don’t care I'll do whatever I like.
“Hope you’re not serious”… as she looked at me.
“Of course, I am more serious than ever,” leaving the place I was to the other side of the room as Tessa followed me.
“What is the matter”
“I have nothing else to say”
“We have already talked about this, Lily.. please don’t do this”. She said speaking calmly.
I lowered my head
“You don’t understand me, Tessa”.
“How can you say that”… still speaking to me calmly
“You're my best friend, Lily. I have always understood everything, I know you don’t want this, but at this point, you have no choice, I know you will be fine”… she couldn’t hold herself back anymore and began to cry. I held her so tight as we both patted each other’s backs. I had no choice but to agree to wear the dress but for Tessa.
“Everything will be okay… Lily” as she touched my cheeks.
Just then, a loud impatient knock, as both Tessa and I looked at the door as it drew both our attentions.
“Come in..”, I couldn’t finish my words as father stormed into the room with mother behind him.
“ Fa…”, as if his chest was rising and falling, I couldn’t talk but to keep my mouth shut.
Tessa left my room immediately seeing my parents.
“What nonsense, Lily..”
His voice felt like thunder, as his mother stood without saying a word or even moving.
“Do you realize you have an aisle to walk through, after all I have done for you,”.
Oh, Father, you still haven’t done anything for me only to put me in misery.
“You,”… he said pointing at me
“ I knew you, were a disgrace to this family, I won’t like to keep guests waiting…”
“This was never my choice to make you all made this choice”… I said to him with tears in my eyes.
“You’d better do yourself a favour by getting ready and don’t do anything stupid by not wearing those clothes sent by Ethan”.
“Mom”… I called
“ listen to your father Lily…., " Father knows best”. She said with pain in her eyes as she walked behind her father as they both left the room without saying a word.
“Yes listen to your father..” is what Mom would say.
I hated this for mom, she never had a choice of her own, all father did was to impose his decisions on her, she never went contrary to whatever father said. Even when she speaks harshly to me, she looks without saying a word or doing anything to stop him.
I don’t want to end up like my mother, I want to be a wife not a slave in my own house, or to suffer in pain like her. … “ I thought to myself as I wiped my tears.”
I looked at the box on my bed … as I walked towards it scanning through the dress, as I took breath with a heavy heart.
Whispering to myself.
“What if I ended up just like Mother ?”
