Shadow
As soon as I explained how important it was for us to leave, Katie withdrew into herself. She closed her eyes and curled up into a ball on the bed.
I wasn’t sure what had distressed her so much. I leaned over the large bed and pressed a kiss to her forehead. Then I stood up and began to pace around the room, my mind a whirl.
I’d assumed Katie to be, maybe, one-quarter witch.
Sadie’s mom had been a full witch; Sadie was half. That in itself to me had been amazingly rare. But this... wow. None of my family were full bloods. They’d all bred with shifters to decrease the magic in their genes for the advantage and safety of their children.
