Chapter 27: Falling Slowly

1027 Words

The air was soft with the smell of roses. Ann stepped out of her bedroom wearing a simple but elegant navy-blue dress. It wasn’t too fancy, but it hugged her gently, showing off her small baby bump in a sweet way. She had tied her hair into a loose bun, and the soft glow of the penthouse lights gave her skin a gentle shine. She didn’t know what to expect when Richard asked if they could have dinner together just the two of them. No work. No stress. Just… dinner. She walked toward the dining area and froze. The dining table was set beautifully. Soft candlelight flickered in the center. A gentle tune played in the background slow, calm piano music. Richard stood at the far end of the room, adjusting a wine glass. He turned when he heard her footsteps. For a moment, he didn’t say anything.
