I noticed Jas was lost in her thoughts when her instant chatter stopped beside me. I was trying to lighten her mood and get her to share with me whatever is upsetting her when my eyes stopped on a very familiar face, making my stomach drop. I blinked twice to see if I was hallucinating, but that face was still there laughing with no care in the world. My heart stops beating. And my legs are moving in her direction on their own.
Millions of questions are running in my head. I know my dad said she left us for her true love but I want to know why she never tried to contact me. How can she up and leave her child behind to never look back? I took two steps in her direction when Jas' sweet voice stopped me. Only then do I remember her and our friends who are here with us.
