Chapter 6

Past Jane Thank god, the exams are over. And we can relax now. ''Hey, Jane what are you doing lying around in your sweats,'' she exclaimed, looking really horrified. As if I killed her dog. ''What do people do lying around in their sweats Jas. Of course, I am relaxing.'' I said in a duh tone. What is up with her anyway? She is dressed like she is going to a pub. ''By the way, why are you so dressed up? Going on a date with Drew.'' I asked, still lying on my bed with my phone in hand scrolling through my i********: feed. ''Don't tell me you forgot?'' she nearly screeched. ''Forgot what?'' I asked lazily because my mind couldn't come up with anything more important than relaxing right now. After the hell of two weeks I had. ''Carson's party. Today is Carson's party and I am getting ready for that. And hence my question, what are you doing in your sweats? Aren't you coming?'' she reminded me. Oh Gosh yeah, I remember now. Carson was friends with Mr. gray eyes and his minions were going around the campus inviting every freshman and sophomore. And I know Mr. gray Eyes' name now. By the way, his name is Nathaniel. Jas told me in one of her wines about her ex-boyfriend Jake. O god !! How can I forget the first party of my first year? In high school, too, I didn't have the confidence even though I had friends with me. I didn't even attend my prom. So I was pretty excited about this one. It's pretty surprising how I forgot about it. ''Oh god!! Oh god!! It slipped from my mind. What will I wear now? I don't have any dress. I had to go shopping but now I don't have enough time.'' I started panicking. ''Calm down. Calm down, babe. I bought a perfect dress for you when I went to buy a dress for myself.'' She rummaged through her closet and fished out a shopping bag. And handed it to me. I looked inside and picked out the white-colored crop top that had lace on it topped with a sweetheart neckline. With matching shorts to go with it, they also have lace on their hems. Cute but a lot more revealing than the dresses I used to wear. I looked at Jas, who was quite excited to know my opinion on the dress. ''It's cute -- ''I know right. I knew when I saw it that it would look perfect on you.'' she didn't let me finish in her excitement. ''Jas, I can't wear it. It's revealing too much .'' I said sheepishly. Jas glared at me. ''In what century are you living, Jane? It's totally fine. You don't know what type of clothes girls wear at parties like these. In particular, Carson's party tends to get a little wild.'' Jas tried to convince me to wear the dress. I like that dress a little too much but don't have the confidence to wear it. ''I -- ''I don't want to hear anything you will wear it. End of the discussion. And get ready fast. Andrew will be here around eight thirty ish.'' I started to protest but Jas cut me off once again, telling me about Andrew being our ride, and continued getting ready. Without any other choice, I too started to get ready. And let me tell you the dress did magic to me. It is really good. I love it and myself in it. Then I put a little make-up on. And curled my hair in loose waves. When I got ready, Jas wolf-whistled at me. Which made me embarrassed. And heat rushed to my cheeks. Exactly at eight-thirty, Andrew called Jas to come outside. We picked up our purses and locked our room and made our way outside. We reached Carson's mansion in 45 minutes. His mansion was quite far from campus. His mansion was quite impressive with marble floors, lavish chandeliers, and expensive glasswork. I wonder how he convinced his parents for the party. Jas and Andrew met their friends while I was standing there quite awkwardly. I don't have many friends here. Jas and Luca are my only friends. I am somewhat comfortable with Andrew too. I mingle with everyone but can't open up with any of them. And friendship for me is being comfortable with others if I have to walk on eggshells around someone. It means I am wasting my time with them. So, yeah, I have a lot of acquaintances but not friends. After exchanging pleasantries, we moved to the kitchen to drink something. And O my god!! What an exquisite kitchen it is. We grabbed some drinks for ourselves and made our way outside. I miss Luca. I feel like a third wheel being with Andrew and Jas right now. Alas, he had to go to Italy to meet his girl. He promised her that they would meet once the exams were over. Yeah, he told us all about his puppy love one day when Jas and I caught him smiling like a fool at his damn phone. And before that, I caught a glimpse of a girl's photo on his phone's home screen. So, we had our doubts. After that, we confronted him and he told us all about it. So he is making good on his promise. I was sitting on the bar stool of the small bar which is located in the far corner of the living room. But the dance floor is quite visible from here. I enjoyed watching people dance. There was a tap on my shoulder. I looked at the person who was leaning on the bar beside me. He was grinning ear to ear, clearly enjoying the party. ''Hey, I am Carl,'' he said with a drink in his hands. ''Hi, I am Jane,'' I replied, not wanting to be rude. ''Jane, how come we haven't met before?'' he asked. What is he trying to do now? ''I am new here,'' I replied. I didn't know what else to say. ''Oh well, where are you from Jane,'' he asked. ''I am from New York,'' I replied honestly. I don't know but he seems like a sweet guy. And he is not bad on the eyes with his soft brown eyes and raven black hair. ''New York, the city that never sleeps.'' ''Are you seeing someone.'' I am unsure how we went from New York to my relationship status. But nevertheless, there is nothing to hide there. ''Nope'' popping the 'p' at the end. ''So now I am sure I won't get into trouble. Would you like to dance with me?'' ''Sure, I would love to,'' I replied because I wanted to dance badly. I was waiting for Jas to be available but I guess today Andrew is not in any mood to leave Jas's side.
