Once we climbed into the car, Xavier took out his phone and called Nigel. I tuned him mostly out as he talked to him about what had happened this morning. Then he flinched harshly at something and I tuned back in. "Absolutely not." He growled into the phone. "I'm sick and tired of all these tests. Can't you figure it out without all of that?" His eyes flashed to me and when he saw I was paying attention, he frowned. Finally, he sighed harshly. "Fine. We'll stop by later. This is the last time." He hung up, and his eyes were saddened.
