Japhet’s eyes met mine, and the storm in them was unlike anything I’d ever seen before. His grip loosened slightly, and Cadoc took the opportunity to shove him back, stepping away from the balcony’s edge.
"Go ahead," Cadoc said, brushing off his jacket as if nothing had happened. "Tell her. Or should I?"
Japhet’s shoulders slumped, and he looked away, his silence cutting deeper than any words could.
"Japhet," I whispered, my voice trembling. "What is he talking about?"
Cadoc smiled, his dark eyes gleaming with satisfaction. "You see, Delphine, Japhet and I have… an arrangement. One that ensures my survival and his precious little secret stays hidden."
"Secret?" My voice cracked, disbelief coursing through me. "Japhet, what secret? What have you done?"
