Delphine pov I kissed him deeper, my hands moving instinctively to unbutton his shirt. My fingers fumbled on the first button, but then it hit me—I wasn’t thinking straight. This wasn’t right. I pulled back abruptly, leaving his lips cold, and slid off his lap to retreat back into my seat. My breath was shaky as I avoided his eyes, too afraid of what I’d find there.. But he didn’t look angry. Not even a little. “No, this... this is wrong,” I said, more to myself than to him, as I sat stiffly. My fingers went to my hair, trying to fix the mess I’d made during my lapse in judgment. I felt his eyes on me, watching, assessing. “You okay?” he asked, his voice calm, like nothing had just happened. Like he wasn’t affected at all. I nodded quickly, though my voice wavered. “Yeah. I’m fine.”
