The same four plain walls greet Serenity's eyes as she opens her eyes, adjusting to the light that had been turned on automatically by a timer that turned on and off at the exact times every day to indicate when it was time to get up and go to sleep. A groan escapes her lips as she looks around the plain room or more like a cell, she had grown used to calling it. Her legs swing to her right, hanging off the edge of the cot she called a bed as her bare feet press against the cool tiled floor. Pressing her hands against the cot, she stands up, getting to her feet, waiting for the dizziness to pass before taking a step towards the small bathroom inside her room.
Her feet tap lightly against the tiled floor as she steps into the bathroom closing the door before stepping Infront of the sink turning on the water. Her eyes focused on the water that was running, and she grabbed a clean washcloth, getting it wet in the warm water, wringing it out before closing her eyes and pressing it to her face before taking a deep inhale and slowly exhaling. Putting the washcloth down, her face tilts up as her eyes lock onto the broken mirror, standing still focusing on every break and shard the mirror was in.
The main door to the room clicks open as the clicking of one of the so-called nurses' heels can be heard making her way towards the bathroom entrance before knocking. "I've brought your food. Make sure you eat it all because you've got a long day ahead of you," the nurse says in an undermining way. "yes, every day is a long day. I'll be out to eat in a few minutes," Serenity says back, listening to the nurses' heels, then click back across the floor and slam the main door to the room closed.
She let out a sigh hearing the door close, and she grabs hold of the door handle. Turning the knob, she then steps out into the main room seeing the tray of food sitting on the little desk that had been where she had been eating every meal for the last five years. Pulling out the chair, she took a seat, looking at the calendar that she had hanging over the desk, which had been something she had to get permission to have. It was the only way she knew what day or year it was, not having stepped a foot outside of this facility they called it. Crossing out the date of yesterday, seeing it was now December 13th, 2111, letting out a sigh, her eyes move down to focus on what had been prepared for breakfast this morning. Her eyes travel across, being able to tell what she would be in for today by what type of breakfast they prepared for her this morning. They had composed two pieces of toast, a hefty serving of cheesy scrambled eggs, four slices of bacon, four pieces of sausage links, and strawberries. Her fists clenched as her eyes traveled to the three large glasses in front of her, one filled with orange juice, one filled with apple juice, and the last one was ice water.
She picked up a couple of the salt and pepper packets sitting on the tray, ripping them open sprinkling them over her scrambled eggs sighing. She went ahead eating, planning on enjoying this food since it is the only good thing that will be about today, she thought to herself. Taking some of the small serving peanut butter containers spreading them over the two pieces of toast. She proceeded to pick up her fork, taking a bite of her scrambled eggs beginning to shovel the food into her mouth. She paused to take a breath and to take a few gulps of one of the juices planning on finishing everything that was brought to her; besides, she was going to leave half of the large glass of water so it would be left since it was only ice water and a cup. Still, anything else she did not finish would be taken and thrown out.
She finished eating, setting the fork down, and finishing up the rest of my juices, leaving the water, stacking the empty cups and dirty silverware up onto the tray putting the glass of ice water to the corner of the desk. She stands up and pushes in the chair, pulling out the pair of black spandex and black sports bra, putting them on, preparing for when they come in to get her. She grabs one of the ponytails she had to keep her long dark hair up and out of them during the tasks she must do throughout the day. Slicking back her hair, putting it up into a high ponytail.
Just as she had finished putting her hair up into a ponytail, in walked in two of the nurses, two so-called doctors in their white coats followed by some large men in black. "Miss, it is time for us to be going for the day," one of the men was wearing all black with a pair of sunglasses. His shirt is a skintight muscle shirt that allowed his muscles to bulge out openly and fully. A couple tattoos covered the man's arms and disappeared underneath his shirt. His pants were form-fitting but seemed as though they had enough space to allow him to move around freely if that time should ever arise. She looked over to the man dressed the same as the other, except he only had a full sleeve tattoo on his left arm. Other than that, they looked practically identical.
She must have taken too long to respond to the man, for one of the nurses turned her nose at her speaking up in her arrogant, slightly higher-pitched voice, which all the nurses around here seemed to speak like that. "Are you deaf? Answer the man, and let's get a move on already, or do you need assistance from here to where we are going?" the nurse spoke with one of her taunting grins. Serenity knowing precisely what the nurse had meant before standing up and walking towards them, "No, I do not, let us get a move on then, shall we?" she said, keeping her head held high to them, not allowing them to belittle her. Then a loud smack echoed through the bare room as the nurses' hand collided with Serenity's right cheek. She clenched her fist together, keeping her eyes adverted and not allowing her body to cup her cheek, which was stinging. "How dare you hold your head up in front of us, keep your eyes on the ground, and know your place like a good experiment. Remember that is all you are good for anyways," the nurse sneered at her before her, and the other nurse and the two doctors exited the room as one of the bodyguards slightly pushed Serenity on the back silently telling her to get a move on. Taking a slight step forward, she thought to herself, yes, today would be a long day indeed.
Long bare white halls that are all the eyes can see. There are no windows in any part of this place; Serenity would know this all too well. She had seen a lot of this facility they had her trapped in, and not once in the last five years had she seen a window or an ounce of daylight. Occasionally, they would let her into the greenhouse, which was lit by artificial sunlight, but that did not compare to actual sunlight; it had been so long she felt as if she had forgotten what actual sunlight felt like. After what seemed like an eternity, they finally reached the end of their long walk.
A large, tall door stands between Serenity and the room that would be her prison for the next twelve hours. One of the doctors pushed open the door allowing the nurses to step inside the doctor's following suit. She slow steps into the room. Her heart hammering in her ears as the sound of her bare feet tapping against the floor battled with the sound of her heart for dominance in her ears. Taking a slow deep breath, mentally preparing herself for what was to come.
