Adrian waited in the parking lot for Ellie to get out of her car before heading up the stairs. He was trying really hard to keep his temper in check.
“I’m so tired. I think I’ll run the bath right away, if that’s okay with you?”
“It’s not.” He’d told her about his mother’s party and he damn well expected her to go. He opened the door and she proceeded him inside.
“Oh, it smells delicious.” She stopped, looking into the kitchen. “It looks lovely. You shouldn’t have gone to all this trouble.” She kissed him but he didn’t kiss her back.
“It’s our first Valentine’s together. Why shouldn’t I go to the trouble?” He dropped the cake box on the table.
