Ellie couldn’t move. Until a second ago, she’d had a reason to hope that Adrian still felt something for her. He’d been warm and kind but now, he was distant. He was only sitting a few feet from her, but it seemed like he was miles away. She had to fix this. “Do you want me to open it?”
“I don’t care.” He turned toward her. “I won’t be returning it, so you don’t have to worry about that. I didn’t spend much. It’s a stupid gift.” He walked over and picked it up. “I’ll just trash it.”
“No, don’t do that.” She hurried over to him. “Please.”
“Really, it’s stupid. I don’t think you’ll even want it.”
“I do.” She held out her hand.
“I never should’ve mentioned it.” He gave it to her before sitting back down on the couch. “I’m telling you. You’re going to think it’s stupid.”
