Chapter 6

1802 Words
Gavin “What?” Alpha Cluster practically whines from behind his desk and Aaron is sitting down calmly as if we were in an alliance meeting. “I’ll ask you once, father. You tell me the truth you live, you lie and those whores you disrespect my mother with will find pieces of you scattered throughout their many beds. Did you sell Tempest?” Aaron says it so softly, almost whisper-quiet, and the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. My brother is a true f*****g alpha and being his beta fills me with a sense of pride. Cluster sputters and tries to look innocent but we’ve been at this s**t for years with the man. We know it’s all an act to manipulate Aaron. The old alpha has never been above crying and guilting my brother. James will use the loss of Aaron’s mother as an excuse for anything he’s done. Over the last five years since her death, her mate has used her name like a prayer to prevent her son from killing him. And Aaron wants him dead but struggles with the fact of who Cluster used to be. He used to be a father and a pack alpha, never a great one, but at least a functioning one. “I’ve been commanded son I swear!” James whines and for once I believe the man straight away. His face is contorted in pain as he fights a command some more powerful alpha has given him. Aaron leans over the desk with a snort of disgust. My brother would have never let another alpha command him like his father has done. “Speak or die, father. Your decision.” Aaron said with an unhurried ease as he made himself more comfortable in the seat. I glare at the man who should have been teaching his son and I to lead a pack not burning it to the ground and watching us scramble to put out the fires. “There’s very little I can say, son.” James says with a nervous lick at his lips as Aaron stares him down. “The girl was claimed by men years ago and they’ve been sending money ever since. Harold and Decora never wanted the money, so I offered to invest it for Harold. He would never take the money but he didn’t mind profiting from the interest. We made good money for a few years but we’ve lost everything now. We can’t even offer to pay the money back now because we simply don’t have it.” James croaks out and I want to bash him in his face for not warning Aaron and I sooner. We thought we had uncovered all his little plots and exploits. It f*****g irritated me to know this asshole had screwed us yet again. No way was anyone taking my girl away from us! I growled and James gave me a nervous look. “How much?” Aaron finally managed to ask after our growls and snarling died down. James actually paled at the question and my guts quickly climbed into my throat suffocating me. “They're coming for the girl Aaron. They’ve never wanted the money. I’ve borrowed a bit here and there from them in Tempest name and I’m afraid to ask the true amount owed. It’s easily millions.” James mutters as he eyes us both cautiously. When neither of us move James sees that as his opening and plows forward. “Aaron the pack that she was sold to is powerful. Even if we had all the money, they wouldn't want it. They want the girl.” “Tempest!” Aaron barks at his father and James flinches. He drags a hand through his hair in an act that reminds me so much of my brother I actually feel a bit sorry for the bastard. Oh I f*****g hated him with everything in me for selling our girl but he was my brother’s father. “Tempest.” James says sadly. “I thought she would be your mate Aaron, that's why I’ve tried keeping them away from her since she turned eighteen. You three were always so close, I thought one or both of you might mate the girl. When she turned eighteen and her wolf didn’t emerge I knew she wouldn’t be fit for either of you as weak as she is, but I told them she was wolfless and they agreed to give her time. It’s been two years now boys and they want what they have bought. There’s nothing we can do to stop it, Harold has tried everything. They’ll destroy this pack to get that child and I’ll never let that happen!” James growled and I shot him a cold glare. Do not argue with him! Aaron commanded me through our link as I opened my mouth to rip into Alpha f*****g Cluster. This monster was trying to steal my sunshine! I growl but Aaron’s command keeps my lips sealed. Aaron casually reclines in the seat as if all of our worries have suddenly disappeared. His father eyes him warily and leans back. “I don’t like how you’ve handled this father but if a more powerful pack wants her, they can have her.” Aaron says calmly and the only thing keeping me silent and sitting is Aaron’s f*****g command! I struggle against the command in a fit of fury and misery. How could Aaron sell out our girl like this? “Good.” James mutters and continues to eye us both. “They would wipe this pack out, son. Being an alpha means looking out for the good of the pack, not just one girl.” To my horror, Aaron f*****g nods and actually grins at his father. “Well, see if you can get a bit more from them since she has lived in the pack house for the last fifteen or so years.” Aaron says with a chuckle and now I want to kill him. I felt like I didn't know this man at all anymore. Gab, take a breath. I’ll explain when we leave. Trust me. Aaron’s comforting words and tone begin to soothe me in a small way. In my heart I know my brother would never be like his father but when Tempt was concerned I never did think rationally. Sorry. I tell him and I hear his comforting and familiar hum easing me and my frayed nerves. He reaches out and squeezes my hand showing me his support and I again wonder why Aaron chose me for his beta. Harold had no blood related children to take the position, so Aaron chose me as his best friend and Harold’s nephew. We had been close all our lives even though Aaron’s a bit older than Tempest and I. He even paid for all of my training and made sure my family wanted for nothing. I loved this man and hoped I could be more like him. I wanted nothing more than to be the beta and friend he needed. “They’ll be here Tuesday.” James says pulling me from my thoughts. “They want to keep it all very quiet, so they don’t scare the girl.” Aaron chuckles and stretches out his long legs. The man looked like midnight compared to my spring day. Aaron’s hair was this beautiful blend of rich dark inky blue and midnight black. Ravens wing I think they call the color. Mine’s more golden than blonde and where Aaron’s hangs down his back in straight perfect lines mine crowds my head in a mixture of wild curls and ambitious cow licks. Where Aaron’s eyes are a dark vibrant blue mine are a light sage green with golden flecks. Night and day we were and it suited us well and had for years. “Don’t scare her or you'll be chasing her.” Aaron chuckles with his father but I see something hard and nasty in his eyes. “Decora is a problem.” The alpha whines and both Aaron and I listen a bit more closely since the asshole is opening up. “I’ve told Harold for years to get a firm grip on her but it’s Decora! The woman’s got her own gravitational pull when she’s pissed off. I’ve never had a moment's peace since they claimed the girl! Decora is always threatening to hide or kill her to keep from turning her over, but breeders are treated very well in this day and age.” I roar at the thought of someone taking our girl and using her as a breeder. Aaron squeezes my hand to remind me not to kill his father but I’m so f*****g close. “Well this is your s**t show to deal with.” Aaron grunts at his father as he stands. “Gavin and I have an appointment with our potential new gamma. We’ll leave tonight so we can arrive early and spend some time seeing if he’s a good fit.” Alpha James nods from behind his desk as I stand with a stretch. I’m struggling to look more relaxed than I really am and as always Aaron’s making it look easy. I really wondered sometimes if Aaron wasn’t some god dropped on earth. The man looked like one and had the control of a f*****g saint. We leave the office and Aaron says nothing to me in the halls. He tugs lightly on my sleeve as he guides me quickly back to our suites. Anyone we encounter on the long way back across the pack house gives us a wide berth as Aaron’s aura rolls of dominance. He matches his pace with mine and we walk shoulder to shoulder back to where our girl is. Two powerful men she could always hide behind. I don’t know what Aaron was planning but I knew him well enough to know he had started to brew something over in his mind. When he told Cluster we were leaving I knew Tempt would be with us. Aaron opens our suite door and pulls me in roughly. “I can’t believe you thought I was ok with them selling Tempt!” He growled at me as he stormed off to the island bar. “Where Tempt is concerned, alpha, I don’t think, I react!” I growl back and he suddenly smirks at me. “Sit Gab. We have got some things to discuss.” Aaron’s deep rich voice rumbles out and I sit as her hands need a drink. “Where are we hiding her?” I ask him flatly and he chuckles. “Last f*****g place anyone would look.” His dark smirk almost flirted with me and I swallowed hard.
