Lucien
“Get her mother!” Oni roars and guards again run into the pack house like worker bees around a hive. No one says a word too scared they might set one of the Royals standing on their pack house steps off. Power and strength roll off me as I glare and snark at each of them. Wolfsbane or not I was still a f*****g Lycan!
Three guards come out being followed by what looks like a very strong defiant she wolf. She towers like an sss queen but her face has been ravaged by savage claws. She stands flat footed and glares at me like I’m s**t between her toes. It’s f*****g impressive as hell and any other day but today I would have enjoyed knowing she raised my mate. Today, just wasn’t that day. Her absolute defiance and complete lack of sorrow told me my mate had to be alive somewhere. That at least gave me hope and I could feel Oni almost hum his agreement through my mind. Oni could pick up on some of the most minute tells and was damn near a bear shifting lie detector.
The tall woman glares from one of us to the other and Cedrick steps forward.
“Now sweetling.” He purrs at her and I know he’s trying to use his compulsion on her. Hopefully he can go right into that brain of hers and have her spilling her guts. Oni can’t soothe it out of her. I'm happy to let Cedrick force it from her lips.
“Don’t try that s**t with me you blood junkie!” She bellows at Cedrick with a snide laugh and winks at Oni like they are old friends. He eyes her in surprise as Cedrick snorts.
“Now come on, baby momma’s momma.” Cedrick purred and my father chuckled at him. Oni frowned just about the time the woman brought her forehead down across Cedrick’s nose with crushing speed. He howled in pain as blood ran from his cupped hands over his pouring nose.
“I f*****g warned you vampire!” She hisses and kicks a thick thigh out at Oni who just manages to dodge it.
“Enough!” I bellow, growing tired of watching her use my brothers to stall. “Where is my mate?” I ask her in a growl and she laughs in my face.
“My daughter’s not mated to any f*****g Lycan!”
I growl at her but she just continues laughing. I swear if this b***h wasn’t my Sun’s mother I’d kill her. I stared down at my latest letter to Sun and I lifted it for her to see. She eyes the letter and tries to snatch it from me even with silver cuffed hands.
“Get those damn things off her.” I bark, pissed these assholes are treating my mate’s mother like this. This woman is standing between my mate and me but I also understand why she would now more than ever. This woman’s face is a living nightmare all its own.
“Do you know who I am?” I ask her softly as her mate approaches.
“A beastly Lycan trying to use my baby’s body!” She roars at me as she lunges at my face. Oni and Cedrick step in front of me as I take the keys from the beta and start opening the woman’s cuffs.
“I’m Moon.” I whisper softly in her ear as I unlock the first cuff. She flinches as if I’ve slapped her and whirls her large blue eyes around to stare straight into my silver ones.
“Liar!” She hisses at me but I know I have her now. I pull my long sleeve shirt up and show her the fine intricately wired and woven bracelet Sun had made for me. Wolves heads with different colored beaded eyes and hand sculpted from thin metal lay against my forearm and I never take it off. She stares at it as if trying to work out some great life saving mystery.
“You're a Lycan.” She mutters mostly to herself but we all hear it loud and clear.
“I scented her that evening your pack came for my eighteenth birthday celebration.” I’m not having the whole I’m a Lycan conversation with this woman. She needed to focus on the fact I was Moon and she knew I cared for her daughter deeply. She mumbled something and I took a step closer to her. I’m not trying to crowd her, I’m just trying to show she can trust me.
“I just need to know where she is. When I wrote this letter, I was explaining to her I was coming here to meet her. It wasn’t my goal to steal your daughter away from you. I just wanted to f*****g hug her and feel she was f*****g real. I’ve waited a decade for her like the patient lover that I am.” I almost beg her as I whisper.
If I thought it would help I’d get on my knees and do it loudly. Decora’s eyes meet mine and for the first time I don’t see complete hatred staring back at me. This woman has been mentioned in damn near every letter to me. My Sun admires her mother, and has told me all about her over the years, I just never knew her name until today.
“I don’t know.” She says sadly to me after several minutes of silence. “I gave her a bag with money and some documents that would let her pass as human in their territories.”
“She’s not here?” The whine leaves my throat before I can stop it.
Decora shakes her head and rubs her wrist where the silver burned her skin.
“She left two days ago and I took her clothes and left them around a known rogue hangout. The patrols found them and I knew when they couldn’t catch a scent they’d know it was her clothes.”
“Why isn’t there a scent?” Oni asks before I could and Decora actually laughs.
“Because my baby is very special. Only myself and the late Luna have ever really seen her.”
“Show us a picture.” Cedrick purrs and Decora glares at him.
“That s**t doesn’t work on me. You’re wasting your time. And there are no pictures of my baby. I can’t have someone seeing those who shouldn’t and showing up to take her. That’s what I thought you were doing, Moon.”
I shake my head desperate for her to understand how important her daughter is to me.
“Help me find her.” My voice is calm and open.
“You might be Moon, but you’re still a Lycan.” Decora says sadly as she turns and leaves us behind. I start to follow but Oni touches my shoulder.
“She’s telling the truth, Luce. She doesn't know where the girl actually is. Probably told Sun not to tell her or any one else where she was heading because she could be commanded to speak.”
A thought crosses my mind as Decora enters the pack house.
“Wait,” I call after her and she turns back to me with a hard look.
“Her name.” I say. “Please just tell me her name.” Decora seems to think about it for a moment and then looks deep into my eyes.
“Tempest. Her name is Tempest.” With that she walked into the pack house as I let the name float around in my head like a sweet day dream. Tempest. My Tempest! Just her name alone seemed to ease me some. Goddess I wish she were here but at least I know she didn’t run from me. I still don’t understand why her mother told her to run other than that I was a Lycan.
My father motions for Cedrick, Oni, and I to join him back in the limo. I try scenting the air around us for even a hint of her and there’s nothing. I don’t want to move from the spot until she’s returned to me but Cedrick pushes me forward with his shoulder.
