***UNKNOWN***
***The night of the ball***
Well, this is not what I was expecting to do with my time, but my wolf pushed me to do it. Upset with me that I used a scent blocker to come here, but it was this or nothing. We came back to see the woman of that lovely scent from yesterday, and we were very happy to find that it belonged to the most gorgeous woman I have ever laid my eyes on. It looks as though she is also headed to the ball this evening. She looks so beautiful in that dress, it accentuates all of her glorious curves, and the way she walks would make any grown man crawl from the sway of those hips. She was sculpted like a Greek statue but alive and breathing. If only I could truly see her face, even from this distance, I could tell she's beautiful even if she is wearing a face covering. I couldn't help to notice the man next to her staring and had to suppress a growl.
She walked to the garden far away from everyone and sprayed it on herself, and that's when I noticed her scent had left. They gave her a scent blocker....
Shortly after that, was when she looked right at where I was standing. She can't feel my presence. There is no way, not from this distance. Even some of the best scouts I have run into haven't noticed me from this far away. Especially since I am blocking my scent as well.
"Sh*t, if she is my mate. She definitely got some really strong instincts."
I chuckled to myself.
She began walking away towards her family. Well, I guess we will run into each other again.
I left before anyone could tell I was on their territory, and made my way back to my vehicle where I hid it along the road, and made my way to the Southern Palace.
I had to build a conversation starter and answers to be inline with my conversation with Alpha Max. I looked into him, and my little mate was in his pack. Sometimes the skills you learned as a child come in handy as an adult, and this was one of them. Looking at the file I built for him.
Alpha Max Carter, a strong Alpha, Fair leader, Council Member, two children. Phillip Carter, his oldest and heir, Destiny Carter, his youngest, and last, since his Luna and Mate was murdered by a rogue. Seraphina Carter adopted daughter found by the abandoned river was the only information I could find on her other than her stellar academics.
Arriving at the palace, I parked, and made my way in for this ball. I watched as Seraphina and her sister made their way following behind them.
Watching Seraphina from afar, I noticed she is uncomfortable.
After the King and his beta made their appearance. I looked back at the King. I noticed earlier how he went rigid after looking at her, and keeps staring at her. To my surprise, he was gone and not in his seat but speaking with some Alphas. My next thought was to find Seraphina, and I found her slipping out, so I followed her.
To say the sight I saw was breathtaking would be an understatement. The way she looked under the moonlight in her dress was magnificent. Her olive skin and deep brown hair seemed to be radiating under the moonlight, and she looked so beautiful, but deep in thought. As I approached her, I was about to introduce myself, when she spun around and yelped. Punching me square in the nose.
"OH SH*T, I am so sorry!"
I didn't answer her as I was making sure she didn't break my nose, or give me a bloody one at that. Hell she hits hard. Note to self, don't piss her off.
"I'm really sorry! Are you okay?"
She asked me again and the worry in her voice made my wolf purr. Actually purr. She had so much worry in her eyes. I just shook my head, and checked my nose one more time to make sure.
"Yeah, I am alright. You got a really nice right hook. I can now say I've had the experience of first hand."
It seemed as I was talking to her, she was getting an eye full of what I looked like because I swear she was drooling. I know it was a masquerade ball, but I'm glad I forgot my mask in my vehicle because I love the way she's staring at me. I chuckled, and gave my most charming grin.
"Like what you see, Darling."
She panicked a bit when I said that, which just made me grin more.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean it that way. I was just making sure you were alright. What brings you out here instead of enjoying the wonderful party?"
Crap. I didn't think of an excuse for following her out here. I can't just say I know she's my mate because she used a scent blocker.
"Oh, I'm out here because I needed some air, and I'm happy I did, or I wouldn't have met a gorgeous girl like you."
"Okay, enough of the flattery. Aha, you barely know what I look like. My face is mostly covered, so there isn't much for you to see."
She said, giving me this incredulous look that would make any man snap. Little did she know she already had me hooked from when I saw her earlier.
"Right you are. Why don't we fix that?"
In a swift motion, I quickly came close to her, and grabbed her mask. Her confused and shocked expression was priceless, giving her a soft, innocent look. She had soft, but sharp features down to her slight freckles, and almond-shaped hazel eyes that looked like oak wood with honey. Full lips that looked delicious. She was magnificent. I had her mask in my hand hoping to the goddess I didn't look like an i***t with the smirk on my face, but it was so nice to see the way she was looking at me. Almost as if she was as drawn to me as I was her.
"Ho...How did you move that fast? I can't catch your scent."
She asked.
"Ah well, now that you bring it up."
I brought myself closer to her, moving extremely close to where I would love to mark her.
"You aren't the only one who knows when to use a scent blocker, Darling."
I whispered into her ear before backing up. She was shocked. I knew she was using a scent blocker. I've always been able to smell them. They have a weird soap smell, but everytime I've said this people look at me like I am crazy.
"I have no idea what you're talking about.. I lost my wolf in a rogue attack. I'm not using a scent blocker."
She said trying not to panic. I heard her heart rate pick up from it. Good to know my mate isn't a good liar.
"I'm sorry to hear that. That really is such a sad, and painful experience... I've heard it can drive one mad if they aren't strong enough."
I had to show sympathy like I believed her, so she would believe me as I crouched down to the fountain acting like I was looking at the boring chlorinated water, and not slightly filling her drink glass, she dropped with water to splash on her. She may kill me later when she finds out, but it is worth it. I just can't stay away from her, and I need to smell her scent up close to know for sure. I spilled the water on her. Her intoxicating vanilla and champagne scent filled my nostrils, and my wolf came to the front of my mind saying the word I hoped to hear.
"I knew it, My little mate. Name's Hudson, by the way. It was a pleasure to meet you, Darling. See you next time."
I left her quickly so she wouldn't ask questions about my wolf again. I have things I need to take care of first before I can take her home. So, I made my way to introduce myself to Alpha Max, and I found him mingling with another council member.
I cleared my throat to get his attention, to which he turned and looked at me.
"Alpha Carter, Nice to meet you. I am Lane Coldwell, the founder and Alpha of the Falls Creek pack. Carson has said wonderful things about you. Are you available to speak with me for a moment?"
Alpha Max's expression changed from confused to intrigued as I explained who I was.
"Yes, right now is the perfect time to get to know each other. Why don't we step onto the back balcony really quickly for some more privacy? Yeah?"
Confused, but needing to make a good impression, I nodded for him to lead the way to the balcony.
"Nice to meet you officially. It's wonderful to see an individual build a way to help others that are less fortunate, but that isn't why I wanted to talk to you, Coldwell."
"What is it you needed to talk about then?"
Trying to keep a level head, recently my temper hasn't been the best, and now I am on edge because I left my mate at the fountain.
"I know you are un-mated, and I would like to make a proposition to you. My daughter Seraphina lost her wolf in a rogue attack staged by the Rogue Prince."
He paused, giving me a long look before continuing.
"Look, I know we gave you 12 months to find a mate, but how would you feel about taking her as your chosen mate?"
"I am sorry, Alpha Carter. I don't think that I can make that choice alone."
"Ahhh is that so? Well, I hope you think about this carefully, Rogue Prince Hudson "Lane" Colderson."
He said, giving me a knowingly accusatory look.
What the actual f*ck... There is no way he could know. How would he know about that? I hid it well from everyone. I should have faked an emergency, and sent Carson, but I couldn't stay away from who I now know is my mate even if I tried...
"Before you flee, I am the only one who knows who you truly are, and I know the recent violent rogue attacks aren't caused by you. Your father raised you better than that. I know your new title came from your step-father. So shall we contin...."
We both heard a wall shaking growl, and then shortly after a blood-curling scream…
Alpha Carter took off towards the scream, and I did as well, leaving as quickly as I could. So many questions going through my head. How does he know me?...
