"I'm really sorry! Are you okay?"
The man in front of me started chuckling while holding his nose, shaking his head.
"Yeah, I am alright. You got a really nice right hook. I can now say I've had the experience of first hand."
The weird guy with no smell said checking his nose one more time with his hand to make sure it wasn't bleeding. I know that must hurt because I can feel the residual sting on my knuckles. I still couldn't get over the fact that he had no smell to him. I could take him in a fight with Amelia. That I know for sure, but she can't come out, and for whatever reason, she's super quiet at the moment. Normally, when we get spooked, or someone we don't know is around, she is on high alert. He's got me on height, and slightly on the more muscular side.
"Like what you see, Darling."
The unknown man says with a mischievous smirk.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean it that way. I was just making sure you were alright. What brings you out here instead of enjoying the wonderful party?"
"Oh, Im out here because I needed some air, and I'm happy I did, or I wouldn't have met a gorgeous girl like you."
"Okay, enough of the flattery. Aha, you barely know what I look like. My face is mostly covered, so there isn't much for you to see."
"Right you are. Why don't we fix that?"
In a swift motion my face mask was gone. Confused and shocked, I stepped back, especially since he moved so fast for someone without a scent. He was dazzling though, as I looked at him more fully holding my mask in his hand. He had a prideful look on his face with a dazzling smile. Blonde wavy hair, and eyes that seemed to reflect the moon, giving this beautiful green and gold color.
It was odd I felt almost drawn to him.
"Ho...How did you move that fast? I can't catch your scent."
"Ah well, now that you bring it up."
This strangely fascinating man said, getting close to me.
"You aren't the only one who knows when to use a scent blocker, Darling."
He whispered in my ear lingering a little too long near my marking spot. Before moving back again with an accusing look in his eyes.
"I have no idea what you're talking about.. I lost my wolf in a rogue attack I'm not using a scent blocker."
"I'm sorry to hear that. That really is such a sad, and painful experience... I've heard it can drive one mad if they aren't strong enough."
The strange man said, leaning down closer to the fountain like he was looking for something. I huffed out a breath and closed my eyes for a moment so to collect myself before I started to get angry, and accidentally flashed Amelia's eyes, or manipulated the water. When I opened my eyes, he was gone, or I thought he was. The next thing I know is he's spilling water on me, and getting rid of the scent blocker. I can smell my scent coming back quickly.
"I knew it, My little mate," He said before walking off. "Name's Hudson, by the way. It was a pleasure to meet you, Darling. See you next time."
An then I heard a vicious growl come from inside the palace.
"Wait! Where are you..."
I turned around, and he was gone... I have this eerie feeling, to run, and as I finish that thought, I hear the doors burst open. Without thinking better of it. I took off. Leaving my mask at the fountain, and kicking off my heals the best I could, I made it to the hedges of the garden about 45 feet from the truck where Phil left an extra scent blocker in the center console. In case it started to wear off. That's when I heard a terrifying growl.
"Find them, I know they are here. I scented them. My mate is here."
The King orders to the two warriors.
Oh, F*ck that better not be me. I swear to the goddess that it would be a messed-up fate to mate me with the heir of my family's murderer. I promise to be the most respectful niece, and listen to all of my uncle's rules. Go to college, and get a degree for something to help the pack. Whatever she wants, if she just makes sure it isn't me the king is talking about. I looked again at the truck, and where they were. I had enough distance between the king and two warriors to make it to the truck, especially with the extra darkness from the hedges, I could make it without them noticing me. I'm hoping that, whatever the hell that weird dream was when I passed out, it was really just a dream...
"The scent is coming from over here."
It's now or never, I thought to myself. Amelia whimpered as I took off, and again I heard that growl. I began pumping my legs even harder to try to make it to the truck. Just a few more feet, I thought to myself. When I get hit in the back, knocking me to the ground hard. I rolled, and went to get back up when I see a very pissed-looking wolf staring straight at me. Head down, and stalking towards me. Those red eyes… It really can't be. His scent hit me again, it was his scent I caught earlier. Amelia perking and saying mate in our minds. I couldn't get over the eyes. Those eyes killed my mother. I screamed, and started to back petal towards the truck. He leaped at me, snarling.
I just accepted that this was it. I was going to die, and I at least kept my promise to my uncle, that I wouldn't shift at all. When the snarling stopped, I looked up to see the wolf studying me, as he pinned me to the ground with his paws above my head. Before I could even try to roll, or maneuver to get out of this, the wolf laid down on top of my body, so I couldn't move.
Destiny and her new mate, the beta, came running up to us. The king's beta.
You've got to be f*cking kidding me...
"Here, Your Highness."
His beta said as he handed him some clothes.
The wolf shook, huffing while laying his head down on top of me, looking at his beta.
"His wolf won't get off until you promise you won't run from him. Running makes him want to track and chase you. Which can be tricky as he still doesn't know why he didn't scent you earlier."
He said, looking at me with that suspicious look again. Destiny made pleading faces at me to just listen. Uncle Max, and Phil run up to finally see the commotion. I watched them both curse under their breath.
"Yes, fine, I promise. I won't run."
The wolf huffed at me before slowly getting off me. I stared at my Uncle pleading, wishing for him to get me out of this mess. He just shook his head at me, willing me not to move. I barely sat up, to start to stand. As I hear another low growl.
"Hello Mate." The King said in a lethal tone.
I looked at him, and that was when Amelia looked out.
One little word that means the most to my kind, is the most sacred to us, as it is the goddess's will. Our other halves. Supposed to be the happiest of our lives. Yet, mine. Mine was a nightmare.
"I can't be your mate. I don't have a wolf annymore. I'm sorry. Pick someone else as your mate."
He just chuckled darkly at me. Chuckled. What the hell?
"Why are you laughing at me? In no way is this funny."
That is when his rich voice hummed before replying.
"I know you have a wolf, my little mate. I can feel her too."
