“I’d like to stay here a bit longer, if you don’t mind.” With a small shake of his head and a smaller slant of his mouth, Gideon bent to brush his mouth across Jesse’s temple. Then he leaned his hand against the back of the couch and closed his eyes. Jesse knew they would have to deal with the fight and the emotions that were laid bare. Gideon would no doubt disagree, but Jesse understood now the price of keeping everything hidden and bottled up was too great. Still, he felt no pressing need to deal with it at that moment. He kissed Gideon once again, mouthing “love you” against his shoulder, before closing his eyes. Emma’s steady breathing lulled him to sleep.
