After all of the events of yesterday at school and then last night at Chanday's house, Alayria feels like her brain is about to explode from the migraine headache that is about to split her head in two. When the Police had arrived last night the guy with the gun that had been standing right out in the yard had been long gone, and she and Chanday had ended up looking like two overly paranoid young women and nothing more. This is something that would anger other girls, but both she and Chanday had stuck to their story, and the Cops still thought they were making it all up.
But, Alayria and Chanday didn't make any detail of it up. Why in the world would they? Neither of them are this hard up for attention to make up such a terrifying story as this. She can't understand how the Police can believe that anyone would just decide to make up some crazy story about some strange man with cold malicious eyes holding a gun in one hand standing outside in the yard just staring at the house. Then another thought comes to Alayria that maybe the guy had been that Gang Member, but she can't figure out why he'd been looking at her with such malicious hate when she wasn't the one who'd sent him away....it had been Thomas who'd done that.
Then yet another thought comes to her mind. What if the guy had been someone that Thomas has hired to get Alayria to drop the charges against him? And worse yet, what if he tries something like this again? (It certaintly seems like something Thomas would do to scare me into dropping the charges and say I lied about all of the abuse he's put me through for so long.) She thinks with angry disgust to herself.
Which is why she hadn't gone back to sleep at all last night, and she is now trying her best to unlock the damn front door with her key to the house of hell with her hand shaking wildly like a leaf caught in a whirlwind. She does manage to finally get the door open, but she hesitates in going inside out of self-preservation, but she convinces herself to go inside and as soon as she does her migraine seems to get worse as she begins to remember the last brutal beating Thomas had given to her. And to think it all began just because she had refused to allow Thomas to try to kiss her.
Just remembering it now still causes her skin to crawl with disgust. The way Thomas had just taken it upon himself to grab her ass as though he'd had some right to do so it had caused her to turn around and tell him to never touch her like that again, and his response had been to pin her back against the sink and attempt to kiss her again, and her reaction had been to knee him really hard in the groin. Thomas had been so angry that he'd punched her really hard in the face and she'd fallen to the floor of the kitchen, but just as she'd begun to believe that that is when he'd rape her....he'd only kicked and punched her repeatedly and had even spit on her as she lied there sobbing and bleeding.
Forcing these memories to the far back of her mind in hopes to never have them come up again, Alayria focuses instead on the real reason she has come back to this house in the first place. She is here to just pack up a suitcase of clothing, and to get her money that she has hidden away in her closet inside of a lock box. Entering the house, she closes the door quietly and her gaze roams around the area around her slowly still expecting Thomas to come around the corner at any second to beat the s**t out of her again because of the School Nurse, Mrs. Verone, reporting the abuse and Alayria confirming the allegations that have been made on her behalf....thankfully this is not what happens and she releases the breath she hasn't realized she has been holding.
Alayria steels her resolve to do here what she needs to and she starts going up the stairs to get up to her bedroom though she reamins absolutely vigilant her gaze surveying every corner and door hoping Thomas isn't up here waiting on her to jump out at her and attack her again. Once she realizes she is alone in the house she allows herself to really relax, and stays focused on her task so she can get the hell out of this house before Thomas does get released and return. As she starts to pass by one room in particular she pauses to gently push the door open to see that everything inside the room is just as it had been when Brandon was alive.
The posters of his favorite Rock Bands are still up on two of the walls, his desk still a complete mess with papers and books, his bed still neatly made the way he always had it, and his book shelves still full of books and CD's all in alphabetical order....Brandon had a bad case of OCD which is something she used to love to pick on him about, but now he isn't here for her to pick on, and to yell at her to go away and to stop perving on him. Laughing quietly to herself as she swears she can really hear his voice again, she presses two fingers to her lips and turns them towards the inside of the room to blow him a kiss much as she always did when he was alive.
Alayria then walks away from the bedroom to go two doors down to her own bedroom, and she walks into her room then goes straight to the closet and opens it whrre she pulls out her suitcase, and lifts it then places it onto her bed and she opens the suitcase to have it ready for her to put her belongings inside. She then goes over to her dresser and opens the top two drawers where she pulls out eight bras, eight pairs of matching panties, and eight pairs of socks....she wants to make certain that she always has at least some clean clothes she can wear when she decides to do laundry on the rest.
After placing her undergarments and socks into the suitcase, she then goes back to her closet and removes eight t-shirts, eight sweaters, and eight pairs of jeans. Taking her clothing she stuffs it all into the suitcase uncaring over things getting wrinkled then she shuts the top, and with a little trouble she finally manages to get it closed. Now that she is satisfied that she has enough clothing for the moment she goes back to her closet again, but this time she drops down to all fours and begins to slowly slide her hand around along the closet floor.
Once she finds the spot of the carpet she is searching for she smiles to herself as she pulls it back then carefully she pulls up the loose board, and she reaches into the hole and pulls out her precious lock box. Once she has the box in her hand, Alayria backs up out of the closet then gets up from the floor and goes to her bed to sit down, and softly run a palm along the top of the box. Just as she puts the combination into the lock box to open it her head comes up quickly when she swears she hears a sudden noise inside of the house, and her heart begins to pound wildly as panic seizes her thinking that Thomas has possibly made bail and has returned home.
(What if he has? I can't let him find me here. He'll kill me for sure for telling everything he has been doing to me. I need to get out of here.) Alayria thinks in panic as her gaze flies all around her room to find anywhere she can possibly hide where Thomas can't find her that will give her time to escape as he continues to look through the house....if it is him.
She strains her ears as hard as she can trying to listen for his familiar haevy footsteps through her pounding heart, and screaming mind and the longer she listens she soon realizes that she doesn't hear anything anymore. Now putting it to her fear of his return, she releases the breath she's been holding in relief then opens her lock box she has on her lap. Opening the lid of the box, she looks inside then pulls out four rolls of money secured with rubberbands, three credit cards in her name that Thomas has no knowledge of since she used Bryenna's address to get them, and some pictures that hold sentimental value to her like of her and her Mom, her with her two best friends, and of course her with Brandon.
After she sets the items onto the bed next to her, Alayria is sure she hears another noise from somewhere within the house but before she can get a chance to react she feels something his her really hard in the side of the head, and everything goes black. Alayria doesn't know how long she's been out all she knows is her head hurts really bad, and for some odd reason so do her arms and ankles though she just can't figure out why. (Did I pass out? Did I hit my head on something? Why do my arms and ankles hurt if I did? Did I waste too much time in the house and Thomas actually found me in my room? Oh God, what if this is what happened? What is going to stop him from killing me?) These are just a few of the billion questions running through her aching and fuzzy mind as she continues to make herself seem unconscious so she doesn't tip him off that she is awake.
'How hard did you f*****g hit her?'
Alayria thinks she hears a mle voice ask someone in disbelief, and another male voice answers in a blank tone. 'She is still alive, isn't she?'
Alayria doesn't recognize either of the male voices and a sudden terrifying thought occurs to her. (Maybe Thomas has hired some guys to do the job for him so his hands will be clean and he has an air tight alibi since he is in jail.)
Alayria keeps her eyes closed tightly not wanting these arguing men to know she is in fact now awake, and she is doing her best to keep her breathing steady even though her rising panic is causing her heart to pound, and her breathing to quicken. as the argument between the two men continues, she decides to try to move a little only to discover that she can't move her wrists or her ankles because they seem to be bound with something, and her panic turns into full blown trepidation that this is actually where she is going to die.
She knows she must continue to make these two men believe she is still unconscious, but the feeling of being restrained as she is makes her want to struggle to get herself free so maybe while they are arguing with one another she can make a run for it. But as soon as those thoughts enter her mind they vanish as though they had never even been when a loud "Bang" sounds throughout the room quieting everything, and everyone around her, then she hears a deep, authoritiative voice command angrily. 'ENOUGH! Both of you get out. Now.'
She listens to the heavy footsteps of the two men as they leave the room while she tries her best to keep her breathing steady though it's not easy considering it feels like all of the oxygen has been sucked out of the room. She can hear only one set of heavy booted footsteps coming across the wooden floor, and her breathing grows heavier and faster with each slam of he rheart against her chest. Then she hears a creaking as though something heavy has taken a seat in a chair, and it's followed by the sound of a consistent tapping of something metal against something hard, and she then hears an accented dark amle voice say to her. 'You can stop faking now. I know you're awake, chica.'
As Alayria debates on defying him she is shocked by the odd tingling shiver that rides her spine from just the sound of his voice and the fact that though she knows she should defy him she finds that she can't, and she slowly blinks her eyes open then lifts her head very slowly and her eyes grow wide in fear and shock, and she hisses in fear. 'You.'
