Katie waited in the driveway of Gertrude Chu, her annoyance rising with every passing minute. Mrs. Chu was constantly running late, and she wouldn’t allow Katie into the house to clean without her there. But Katie didn’t have time to waste today. She’d called Mrs. Chu and been assured in broken English that the older woman was on her way home. Twenty minutes had passed, and Katie didn’t know anywhere on the island that took that long to get to, besides the cattle ranch way out on the western curve.
