She ended the call and immediately dialed another number. Then another
I watched her work, my expression neutral, my heart carefully guarded. This didn’t change what had happened. It didn’t erase the past. But it was something, something tangible and very much real
After several minutes, she lowered the phone and looked at me, her face pale and exhausted
“It’s done,” she said quietly “The money will be in your account within the hour”

I just nodded
