I left the office yesterday, thirty minutes after James had left, to go set up the meeting with Sebastian Brown of Brown Technology. My emotions were all over the place due to the revelations of the day, and I needed an escape. So, I drove to the nearest bar and ordered drink after drink, my mind replaying the terms of the contract I’d read and my mother’s words.
“Jessica is making a play for the company,” she’d said.
Fuck!
I couldn’t believe I’d been so blind. But Jessica had to be a damn good actress because she’d completely fooled me. I was about to fall in love with her, for God’s sake! Maybe I’d already gotten there. That was why her betrayal hurt so damn much.
