Pain surged through my skull the moment consciousness clawed its way back. I winced, the throbbing in my head making it hard to piece together where I was or what had happened. My eyes fluttered open, and at first, everything was a blur. The dim light from the cabin filtered into my vision, and I forced myself to focus. I could barely make out the familiar surroundings of the cabin, and that helped ground me. But the irritation quickly set in as the confusion subsided.
I pushed myself up, wincing as my body protested every movement. The ache from the fight lingered, but it wasn’t unbearable—just enough to remind me of what had gone down. As I finally managed to sit up, my heart skipped a beat.
