David instinctively reached out to grab her, but he was a step too slow.
A dull thud sounded as Lucy fell heavily to the ground, her lower back and abdomen slamming hard against the iron frame of the bed.
Agony tore through her instantly. She let out a pained groan, her face as pale as paper, and a shocking pool of bright red quickly spread beneath her.
David froze, staring at the rapidly expanding bloodstain. His head buzzed, going completely blank.
"The baby... my baby..." Lucy clutched her belly, curling up in pain as more and more blood flowed from beneath her.
