She is an orphan; it's not easy to make a decision, and she can't leave easily. Almost everyone in the orphanage knows that she is already married; how could she return to the orphanage out of the blue?
Amira was trapped in confusion, she didn't know what to do. The days after Susan’s arrival were a slow descent into misery for Amira.
Amira was no longer a contracted wife but a maid. Even the maid in the mansion has stopped respecting her based on Susan's order. It was clear from the moment Susan stepped through the door that she intended to take control, not just of Chris’s heart, but of the entire household
“So, Amira, how long do you plan to stay? I mean, the contract is over,” Susan said one morning over breakfast, her voice sweet yet sharp. Chris was in the study room which gave her the chance to bully Amira. "I understand that you have nowhere to go, but you shouldn't make others inconvenient because of your problem. I was supposed to enjoy my company with Chris. However, your presence felt like a third party. After all, we have offered to pay you the money written in the contract agreement"
Amira was silent; she couldn't speak but had a lot of things in her mind. She was like a third party? Huh! Life is funny enough to make one regret being born.
Swallowing the lump in her throat, Amira forced a polite smile. “I’m still figuring things out.”
Susan’s lips curved into a wider smile, but her eyes betrayed her contempt. “Oh, of course. I can imagine it must be difficult, you know, finding a place after... well, everything.”
Amira felt the jab but stayed silent. She had grown used to swallowing her pride in the Dixon Mansion, but Susan’s presence made it harder every day.
It wasn’t long before Jasmine, Chris’s mother, joined forces with Susan as she walked in. Jasmine had never liked Amira. During the contract marriage, she had only tolerated her because Henry, Chris’s grandfather, had insisted on it. Now, with Henry gone, Jasmine saw no reason to hold back her disdain. She saw Amira as an outsider, a nuisance who didn’t belong in their world.
When Susan saw Jasmine, she covered her face with a smile and rushed to her. "Mom! It's nice to have you here!"
"Oh, my darling Susan! It's good to see you here!" Jasmine was greeting Susan with so much warmth that Amira wondered if she had been seeing a zombie all this while. Jasmine has never smiled or welcomed her in such a manner before. It was quite surprising to see her smiling at Susan.
When Jasmine noticed Amira's presence, her expression changed. "What is she doing here? You this poor b***h!" Jasmine shot Amira a disdainful gaze.
With pretense and fake concern, Susan held Jasmine and said. "Mom, it's fine. Even though I'm not comfortable with her around I have to endure since she is an orphan"
Jasmine beams a smile. "Oh dear, I can't believe you are this kind"
Amira was mocked on the spot, so Susan only pitied her because she was an orphan. Meanwhile, Susan was just pretending to be nice
Amira was about to greet when Chris descended the staircase.
"Oh, son! Your Mom is here." Jasmine moves towards Chris, but Susan already has her plan. She secretly stepped on Jasmine's gown, causing Jasmine’s hand to slap the coffee mug on the table as she tried to maintain her balance. However, the coffee had already landed on Amira's tummy, who was standing beside the table.
"Ouch!" Amira whimpered in pain as the hot liquid touched her skin. She touched her tummy and felt unbearable pain.
Meanwhile, Susan has already held Jasmine firmly as she acted innocently. "Mom, are you okay?"
Part of the coffee was also on Jasmine's gown but didn't affect her skin. "Oh gosh! The dress cost a fortune! I didn't expect a b***h to spoil the design," Jasmine lamented, and Susan and Chris's attention focused on her ignoring Amira as if she was nothing.
Favored by the situation, Jasmine stood in front of Amira and slapped her cheeks hard, getting her lips to burst in the process.
"How dare you plot against Mom! We all know how much you wanted to stay behind but you shouldn't do that just because she wasn't on your side like Grandpa"
Within a few minutes, Jasmine already blamed Amira and made her the villain. Before Amira could respond, Jasmine also gave her a resounding slap that got her worshipping the floor.
"You b***h! I could see your love portion work on Grandpa, but my son and I are exceptional!" Jasmine spat and walked in with Susan, who kept showing her pretense.
Chris shot Amira a glare before walking away without sparing her a glance.
Back on the floor, Amira shed tears uncontrollably. Is it bad not to have parents? If only she had a parent to care for her, would she suffer less?
Amira couldn't hold her tears back as the thought hit her hard; she only wished to have someone to call Mom. She wants a place that would feel like home, not the orphanage home that is for all.
The pain she felt in her tummy was incomparable to the one she felt in her heart at the moment. Since no one wants her, she has no choice but to return to where she belongs.
She is motherless, her unborn child must not be motherless. She must protect her baby more than anything else.
With a firm determination, she stood up and was about to leave when Susan descended the staircase, shooting her a contemptuous gaze.
"It is either you leave, or I make life miserable for you." Susan shoved her aside and headed to the kitchen.
As Amira rushed to her room, she didn't notice the pregnancy test that dropped from her pocket. After checking herself the previous night, she has forgotten to put it back in her room after leaving the bathroom.
When Susan came out of the kitchen, she saw the pregnancy test and realized it immediately
"She is Pregnant!”
