That night, when she returned to the orphanage and told Miss Violet and Ava about her new job. Miss Violet looked worried, her brow furrowing as she glanced at Amira’s stomach. “Are you sure this is a good idea, Amira? You need to think about your health.”
However, if Amira stays in the orphanage house without working, the charity fund would cover her expenses. Amira wasn't brought up as a liability, which is why Miss Violet is always proud of the lady Amira became as well as Ava. Even if Miss Violet wasn't able to have a child of her own, she vowed to take care of motherless children across the city, and her orphanage home ranked as the top two in the city while a wealthy orphanage took the first place.
“I’ll be careful,” Amira promised. “But I need to do this. For me. For the baby.”
Reluctantly, Miss Violet agreed. Ava, on the other hand, was thrilled. “ That’s amazing, Amira! Do you know how hard it is to get a job there? People would kill for that opportunity!”
Amira smiled faintly. She didn’t care about the prestige of the job; she cared about the independence it gave her. And as the days turned into weeks, she found herself adapting to the work. The hours were long and the tasks were physically demanding, but she adjusted quickly. Her coworkers were kind, often offering to help her with the heavier tasks when they noticed her condition. Thank goodness Amira was able to avoid Julianna successfully. Even though Julianna seems to have connections with the manager, Amira still manages to get his favor, which gets Julianna mad at times.
One evening, as Amira was scrubbing the floors of the private dining area, she felt someone watching her. She looked up to see a tall, well-dressed man standing in the doorway. His tailored suit and confident demeanor suggested he was someone important, but his kind smile caught her off guard.
“Excuse me,” he said, his voice warm and friendly. “Are you one of the cleaners here?”
“Yes, sir,” Amira replied, standing up quickly and brushing her hands on her apron. “How can I help you?”
This is the first time any customer will reach out to her and she was nervous as hell. Maybe the customer needed the staff's assistance; that was her thought.
The man chuckled. “Relax. I just wanted to thank you for keeping this place spotless. It’s not often people notice the hard work that goes on behind the scenes, but I do.”
Amira blinked, surprised. “Thank you... sir.”
“Call me Jerry,” he said, extending a hand. “Jerry Collins.”
She hesitated briefly before shaking his hand. “Amira.”
After the man left, Amira was stunned and tried to process what just happened. Did the man just compliment her?
Amira was still engrossed in her thoughts when Julianna suddenly showed up and shoved the mopping stick Amira was holding.
"How dare you b***h get recognized by a VIP customer? Huh!" If only Julianna was given the chance, she planned on strangling her to death.
Amira bowed and wanted to explain the situation but she was cut off instantly.
"It seems you have a lot of free time to have a conversation with the customer. I will help you to add more tasks. By then, you won't have the time to chit-chat with anyone!" Before Amira would know what happened, Julianna poured four iced Americano on the floor she had just cleaned.
As if that wasn't enough, Julianna uses her foot to spread the liquid around making it more complicated.
"Argh! Argh!" Amira releases a deep breath and falls to the floor. She remembered vividly how much she spent five hours cleaning the whole place and her thought was to check out after the cleaning.
However, Julianna, the evil spirit, gives her more work to do.
"Next time in your life, you won't have eye contact with any VIP customer!" Just like the evil spirit she was, Julianna disappeared into thin air.
Amira didn't know what to do and remained rooted on the spot. She was still preparing to shed more tears when she noticed someone cleaning the coffee.
Taking a close look it turns to the man earlier. "Mr Jerry?"
"You shouldn't stay like that on the floor, considering your condition." Jerry didn't look at Amira, but he responded as he continued cleaning the floor.
When Amira remembered Julianna's threat, she flinched and stood up instantly.” Please, I will appreciate it if you can let me do the work myself. This job is important to me and I can't afford to lose it for anything"
Jerry found himself smiling. For the first time, he was able to see a woman. At first sight, he already fell in love with the woman, and when he took a close look at her, he discovered the pregnancy.
However, there is nothing in admiring a pregnant woman, no right?
"You don't need to worry young lady. At least, your husband will do the same if he met you in this position." With his tricks, he was indirectly asking Amira about her marital life.
Amira, who wasn't aware of his tricks, appreciated his kindness, but she remained guarded. She wasn’t interested in forming any kind of relationship with a man, not now, and maybe not ever. Her experience with Chris had left her with little trust, and she was determined to focus on herself and her child.
"I didn't have a husband, and I would prefer you keep personal matters out of this," Amira clarified; her tone sounded professional and friendly at the same time.
Meanwhile, Jerry didn't take note of her tone as he was trying to hold back his scream. He was more than happy! He didn't even want to know what happened to her husband or her matter; all he cared about was that she had no one.
Now, his goal is to make her fall in love with him!
As he happily continued the cleaning, Amirah wanted to move to the other side and join the cleaning. However, her leg slipped and she started falling back, a loud screaming escaped her lips.
Jerry rushed to her, grabbing her waist while trying to maintain his balance. They both ended up on a chair with lips on each other, then Julianna came out…
