Tobias POV
After coming back from the forest after pleading to Lucas all I can hear is her screams. It cuts into my ears, my head, an unbearable sound. It surprises me that the whole campsite doesn't hear her. I can't hear anything else. I really hope Lucas can get help. For her, and maybe for me. I sit behind a tree holding my head. Trying to keep the noise out. Seth has hidden inside me, it's like he doesn't exist. Somehow I fell asleep sitting behind that tree. Dawn comes with a queasy stomach and the feeling of being damp all over. It's quiet. So tremendously quiet. Seth moves in my mind, like a shadow. We sneak inside by the back door. I can't hear her, even her smell is faint. But the door to the bedroom is closest so she might be in there. I can hear him. The smell of alcohol is thick in the confined living room. I lay on the sofa looking out into nothing. If Lucas can't provide the help she needs, we need to find another way. I check my phone for nothing one more time before falling asleep again.
*BANG*
The loud slam of the front door flying open took me off guard. I jump up trying to avoid another drunken tantrum thinking it's Hugo. The smell of someone unknown hits me before I see them. A tall man with black eyes is towering over me with a wild look in his eyes. I gaze at the back door on instinct. When Hugo comes tumbling out of the bedroom still drunk and with dried blood in his face the air leaves me and I sink to the floor. The tall man moves with lightning speed, reaching Hugo, and punches him in the face without hesitation. Hugo falls back into the bedroom and It's like I wake up for real this time. From the floor, I sprint to the back door trying to flee the situation. When grabbing the handle a strong hand grabs my neck like I am a pup and pushes me down on the floor. I feel a knee pressing down between my scapulas and hands grabbing my arms. All I can see is the dirty floor as I get tied up.
Jacobs POV
I stare at Lucas, and he stares at me. Did he say that she is his? He shrugs and turns his attention back to her.
I'm not sure how to feel. What does this mean? Tim comes bursting in from behind us "Oh s**t, what happened here. Is she alive?" He shouts walking towards us reaching for her. Lucas lets out a low threatening growl. Blue and I react by rushing up and grabbing his extended arm and twisting him around, forcing him down on his knees.
"Don't f*****g touch her!" I roar holding him down.
"f**k, Jacob!" He hissed. "I won't, okay? I won't…" I let him go. But I don't take my eyes off of him. He is not touching her. The immense possessiveness over her radiates from me. Johnny walks in and assesses the situation in one swift motion
"Tim, get Harry's truck. I have sent after warriors to handle Hugo and the boy!" Tim bows and leaves with a 'yes Alpha'.
"Jacob, you need to calm down, or I will force you. Understood?" I nodded and turned around. Lucas sits on the floor with her in his arms rocking her. Blue isn't totally happy, he's more so jealous. But he isn't out for blood. Strangely I feel calm, he is carefully stroking her and whispers sweet nothings in her ear. Why do I not want to kill him for touching her? I look at Johnny over my shoulder to see him look as surprised as I feel. She looks so small wrapped in my T-shirt. Lucas keeps smelling her hair and rubbing her warm. He looks at her with so much devotion. When Tim returns I lift her up from Lucas and carry her out. The camp security has Hygo and a boy under strict supervision outside. They both look unconscious. It takes everything in me not to kill them right now.
But she needs medical attention. Lucas grabbed the bag and followed me out.
"Alpha. I'll stay and help here. When the pack warriors come to collect I'll ride with them back." Harry informs Johnny who is heading for the driver's seat. Johnny nods, dismissing him. When Johnny is behind the wheel I climb in and sit down with her in my lap. When Lucas is in the truck we speed away, heading towards the pack lands and the village hospital. The smell of blood increases somehow and with it my agony. I don't want to move her too much. I lift her slightly and check my pants but can't see any bloodstains. I put her down gently again and adjusted her. We will let the doctor take a look at her.
"I've linked mum to meet us at the hospital. And she is organizing a female doctor for this occasion." Johnny informed us. Looking at me in the mirror. He is driving fast through the woods. The road is bumpy and I hold her close. Lucas is quiet, he sits leaning forward with his elbows against his knees, his face buried in his hands.
'Luc is coming with us to the hospital!' I link to Johnny. He meets my gaze in the mirror again and nods quietly.
'What's going on?' he wonders through our mindlink.
'I do not know!' I answer sincerely and look at Lucas.
'She's a human, isn't she?'
'Yes,' I answer looking back at her nuzzling her head breathing her scent. The whole trip I sit and breathe deeply. It calms both me and Blue. Lucas becomes noticeably nervous as we approach the border of our territory. But when we cross the border and Johnny doesn't say anything, he breathes a sigh of relief.
When Johnny stops outside the hospital Lucas jumps out and runs around opening my door. With my mate in my arms, I hurried inside followed by my brother and friend. Our mother meets us in the foyer with a concerned look on her face. When she sees us, she slaps her hands over her mouth and whimpers. She looks like I feel. When we reach her, she just stares without words and without action, paralyzed by the sight in front of her. A doctor hurries past her and quickly bows to Johnny, who waves her away. She gently grabs the head of the girl in my arms and lifts her eyelids one by one and shines brightly with a tiny flashlight in them before nodding and asking me to follow her. We hurry after her down the corridor and into a room at the end.
"Put her on the bed and please leave!" The doctor says while taking out a scissor. Two nurses walk in behind us. I press her tight against my chest unwilling to let her go, I just found her. The thought makes my heart race and my head spin. Lucas somehow slipped between me and the bed blocking the path. It hits me again that he reacts like me but not against me.
"Lucas Brown, you are here with my god will. Now listen to the doctor and step aside. Jacob, please don't make me force you!" Johnny growls, waking me from my panic. Mum puts a hand on my shoulder.
"Please, help her. Put her down and let the doctor help her." She whispers. "I'll stay with her!" Reluctantly Lucas moved, he turned and stroked her hair. He brushes his nose against her forehead before kissing it. Breathing her in once more. Then he leaves. I put her on the bed, still wrapt in my shirt. She looks so fragile. I nuzzle her carefully with a deep sigh, before following Lucas out. We both lean against the wall facing her now closet door. And slump down onto the floor. I'm missing her already. Lucas is a bear. I remember him telling me about the mother spirit and how she gives all werebear boys a dream of their partner. Lucas told me about his dream so many times. Her honey hair.
"I guess this isn't what you dreamed," I say looking at my friend. "No. I saw her happy, lying in the grass. with her honey hair shining in the sun. Smiling at me."
"I can't wait to see her smile, so far this is all I have seen of her. But her scent is heavenly!"
"Yeah, she smells like warm honey and cinnamon!" He tells me with a dreamy look on his face. I chuckle.
"To me, she smells like Christmas, oranges, and cloves!" We become quiet again.
"What's going on here?" My big brother question. Surprising both me and Luc. He studies us silently and waits for us to answer. Blue snorts. We both know what's going on. Blue has known all along and I just realized. Strangely though, it feels okay. Maybe not what I had hoped for, but it could have been worse. None of that matters. She's the most important person in the world for me, for us. Lucas looks at me and nods.
"She is ours," I say simply.
