GUARDIAN

"You must choose a companion," the Guardian said. "You will not be able to complete your quest alone. You must choose wisely, for your companion will be your closest ally and friend." Blank considered this, unsure of what to do. How could they possibly choose just one companion from all the people in the world? "Take your time," the Guardian said, sensing their uncertainty. "There is no need to rush." Blank closed their eyes, trying to clear their mind. Then, they saw an image in their mind's eye. It was the face of a person they knew well. They had met this person many times, and they had always been there for them. This person was kind, compassionate, and loyal. They were the perfect companion for this journey. Blank opened their eyes and looked at the Guardian. "I have chosen," they said. "My companion will be..." "Yes?" the Guardian prompted. "My mother," Blank said. "My mother has always been there for me, and she is the one I trust the most. She is my closest friend, and I know she will support me no matter what." The Guardian smiled. "Your mother is a wise choice," they said. "You two share a special bond, one that will serve you well on your journey. Are you ready to begin?" Blank nodded, their heart beating with excitement. "Yes, I am ready." The Guardian pointed down into the valley. "Your journey will take you through that valley, to the land beyond. "But first, you must cross the bridge," the Guardian said. "The bridge is not an easy path, but it is necessary to reach your destination. Are you ready to cross?" Blank took a deep breath, considering the challenge before them. They knew it would be difficult, but they were determined to succeed. "I am ready," they said. The Guardian nodded, and then waved their hand. The bridge appeared before them, spanning the valley like a shimmering rainbow. Blank took one last look at the Guardian, and then stepped onto the bridge, ready to face whatever came next. The bridge was more treacherous than Blank had expected. It was narrow and winding, with jagged rocks on either side. They had to move slowly and carefully, focusing all their attention on each step. But as they made their way across, they felt a sense of peace wash over them. They felt safe and protected, knowing that the Guardian was watching over them. As they neared the end of the bridge, the landscape began to change. The lush valley gave way to a barren wasteland, with dry and cracked earth stretching as far as the eye could see. Blank shivered, feeling a chill run down their spine. The wind began to blow, picking up dust and debris as it went. Blank wrapped their arms around themselves, trying to block out the cold. The further they went, the harsher the wind became. It buffeted them from all sides, pushing them back towards the bridge. But Blank was determined to continue. They gritted their teeth and pushed forward, one step at a time. The wind howled, but they pressed on, refusing to give up. Then, they felt something else in the wind. It was a whisper, so faint that they almost couldn't hear it.
