Secretary

Tristan’s Point of View I lean towards my car and stare back as she walks away, entering my secretary’s apartment. A few minutes later, I decided to hop inside my car and go back home. But she still remains inside my head the whole night! I was drunk and I thought I was with Rachel, so I kissed her. But every woman would be glad if I kissed them, but that woman slapped me in return. ‘Pathetic.’ *** The next day, I arrived early at my office. The door creaks open and Lanie, my secretary, enters with a bunch of papers on her arm. She gently placed them on my table. “All of these need to be signed, Sir.” I avert my gaze from my laptop and stare at her, playing a pen in my hands. “Where were you last night?” Her brows heavily furrowed as her eyes narrowed in confusion. “No, I mean, who were you with last night?” Lanie slowly shook her head. “I’m in my apartment alone, Sir.” I licked my lips and just nodded. “Why do you ask, Sir?” she inquires, arranging the papers I need to sign. “Nothing. I just think I saw you somewhere with someone last night,” I said lastly, before signing the papers. ‘Why didn’t I think beforehand? Of course, if that woman was her best friend, she wouldn’t definitely tell me the truth,’ I thought, shaking my head in frustration with my actions. “But weren't you in a restaurant last night with Ma’am Rachel, Sir?” “That doesn’t matter,” I grouse, not looking at her. I don’t want to remember that night ever again. Not because of the woman who slapped me at the club, but because I consider that night the worst night of my entire life. “May I ask how your proposal went? Are you finally getting married, Sir?” she asks, excitement audible in her voice. “I’m sure Ma’am Rachel said yes!” she adds, gently giggling. “How I wish she was there to say that coming from her own lips,” I murmured. “S-sorry, Sir?” “No, nothing. I haven't proposed to her yet,” I lied, bitterly chuckling. She just nodded and didn’t bother to ask me any more questions and just waited until I was done. I closed the folder and handed it back to her. She accepts it and stays standing in front of me. “Is there anything else you need?” “I’m leaving, Sir. I need to resign as your secretary,” she begins. “Why is that?” “For some personal reason, Sir. I need to resign as soon as possible.” I carelessly shut my laptop off and sharply glared at her. “Aren’t you aware of our workloads this week, are you?!” I couldn’t help but burst out in frustration. Everything just seems to be not in favor of me. Lanie has been my secretary for almost five years already. I always prefer a secretary like her who focuses on their jobs rather than flirting with their bosses. “Y-yes, Sir. But I really need to leave. This is urgent and important. But don’t worry, Sir, because I have someone who can be your new secretary.” I signed and ran my fingers through my hair. “Train that new secretary a week before you resign.” “Yes, Sir! I will pass you her resume today,” Lanie exclaims before shutting the door. I knew to myself that I couldn’t stop her from leaving. However, not a long time after, Lanie enters, placing a folder on my table. “That is her resume, Sir.” “I’ll review it later, but you could start training her today.” Lanie quickly nods and turns away to leave. I grabbed the folder she left and slowly opened it. My eyes went wide open seeing the woman from last night exactly the same as the image attached to the resume. I lean against the back of my swivel chair, crossing my legs, as I continue to review her resume. ‘So her name is Hannah,’ I whispered inside my mind, twitching my lips evilly. Fixing my necktie, I got up on my feet and walked outside my office. I roamed my eyes around and found Lanie in the printing corner teaching the woman beside her. That must be her. I slowly reach them and they both respectfully bow their heads. “Hannah, this is Sir Tristan. Sir, this is Hannah, your new secretary.” She lifts her arm, extending it for a handshake. “It’s my pleasure meeting you, Sir Tristan.” My gaze was fixed on her the whole time, not minding her hand in the air. Her hands only lasted for a couple of minutes before she drew them back. Hannah timidly bows her head, tiptoeing in shame. Lanie grabbed her trembling hands before she excused herself. I’m left stunned. ‘What was that?’ I asked myself in disbelief. Before I raged up with my thoughts, I got back inside my office and slammed my desk in irritation. Just seeing her face makes my blood simmer. Perhaps this isn’t just because a woman dared to slap me, but because I was also broke at that time. I didn’t notice the door open until I heard a woman’s sweet voice behind me. “Good noon, Sir, Lanie asked me to hand you these papers.” I quickly turned around, but she was just a few inches away from me. So, our faces were only a few inches left before they touched each other. I stood still, smirking at her surprised reaction. Until she finally takes a step backward. ‘I knew it. I mean, who wouldn’t be intimidated by me?’ “Get back here later. I’m currently not in the mood of signing any papers,” I coldly uttered before getting back to my seat. Her lips slightly parted in surprise, but she couldn’t do anything but leave. “A-all right, Sir, I’ll come back here later. I almost burst out laughing as soon as she left. Because I knew that those papers needed to be signed urgently. I clicked my tongue, staring at the wall clock. The clocks ticked a few times before the door of my office was pushed open by Hannah. “Sir, I’m sorry, but these papers are needed now. Kindly sign it now.” I sway my head and look at her from head to foot before snapping the papers out of her hand and putting them on my table. “Get me a cup of coffee,” I commanded, signing the papers in the process. She ambles toward the counter and begins to prepare my coffee. I stare at her slender body, wondering if she’s just good at acting or perhaps she doesn’t really remember me last night. I inwardly chuckled, as an idea crossed my mind. ‘This is just the beginning of your hell life here, Hannah. No one ever bothers to slap Tristan Miller.’
