Danielle trudged through the front door, exhausted from a long day of school and studying with Alexander. She dropped her backpack on the floor and headed straight to the kitchen to grab a snack. Her stomach was growling, and she needed something to hold her over until dinner.
Her mom was already there, washing dishes and listening to music. "Hey, sweetie, you're home late. Everything okay?" she asked, eyeing Danielle's tired expression.
Danielle opened the fridge and pulled out a leftover sandwich. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just studying with Alex ," she replied, trying to sound nonchalant.
Her mom raised an eyebrow. "Oh, Alex. How was it? " she asked, her curiosity piqued.
Danielle took a bite of her sandwich, hesitating for a moment before answering. "Twas fine mom, we've been studying together for a while now, and...I really like him," she admitted, feeling a blush rise to her cheeks.
Her mom turned off the water and turned to face her. "Hmmm. What's he like?" she asked, her eyes sparkling with interest.
Danielle sat down at the kitchen table, feeling a mix of excitement and nerves. "He's amazing, Mom. Smart, funny, and really kind. And he comes from a great family too," she added, trying to gauge her mom's reaction.
Her mom's expression turned skeptical. "What do you mean by 'great family'?" she asked, her tone cautious.
Danielle sighed, knowing this was the part where her mom would start worrying. "They're wealthy, Mom. Like, really wealthy. But Alexander doesn't act like it. He's down-to-earth and genuine," she explained, trying to reassure her mom.
Her mom nodded thoughtfully. "I see. Well, I'm glad you're happy, sweetie. But be careful, okay? We don't want you getting hurt," she warned, her eyes filled with concern.
Danielle nodded, walking towards the living room.
Her mom walked over to the table and sat down next to her. "So tell me more about Alexander now. What's he like as a person?" she asked, her expression softening.
Danielle smiled, feeling happy to share more about him. "He's really kind and caring. He always makes sure I understand the material before moving on. And he's funny too - always making jokes to lighten the mood."
Her mom nodded, looking thoughtful. "That sounds great. But what about his family? You said they're wealthy - what's that like?"
Danielle hesitated, unsure how much to reveal. "It's...different. They have a big house and nice cars. But they're not snobby or anything. They're really nice and welcoming."
Her mom raised an eyebrow. "I see. Well, just remember that money isn't everything, okay? You deserve someone who will keep you as a friend for who you are, not just your background."
Danielle nodded, feeling a surge of love for her mom. "I know, Mom. And I think Alexander might be that person."
Her mom smiled, her eyes shining with warmth. "I'm glad to hear that, sweetie. Just be careful and take things slow, okay?"
Danielle nodded, feeling a sense of relief wash over her. She knew her mom just wanted what was best for her, and she appreciated that.
Danielle's phone rang, breaking the conversation with her mom. She glanced at the screen and smiled, seeing Alexander's name.
"Hey, Mom, it's Alexander. I'll take it in my room," she said, getting up from the table.
Her mom nodded, returning to washing dishes.
Danielle answered the call, feeling a flutter in her chest. "Hey, Alexander!"
"Hey, Danielle! How's it going?" Alexander asked, sounding cheerful.
"It's going great, thanks! I was just talking to my mom about you," Danielle replied, walking into her room.
"Oh, yeah? What did you tell her?" Alexander asked, sounding curious.
"I told her about us studying together and how much I like you. And she's happy for me," Danielle said, feeling a sense of excitement.
"That's great! I'm glad to hear that. Listen, I have some news too. My parents invited you over for dinner on Sunday after church," Alexander said, sounding a bit nervous.
Danielle's heart skipped a beat. "Really? That sounds amazing! I'd love to meet them."
"Awesome! I'll pick you up at 2 pm then. And don't worry, they're really nice. They'll love you," Alexander reassured her.
Danielle smiled, feeling a sense of relief. "Thanks, Alexander. I'm looking forward to it."
"Me too, Danielle. See you Sunday!" Alexander said, hanging up the call.
Danielle walked back to the kitchen, feeling excited and a bit nervous about meeting Alexander's parents. She knew this was a big step, but she was ready.
Danielle rushed back into the kitchen, a big smile on her face. "Mom, Mom! You won't believe what just happened!"
Her mom turned off the water and turned to face her. "What is it, sweetie?"
"Alexander's parents invited me over for dinner on Sunday after church!" Danielle exclaimed, barely containing her excitement.
Her mom's expression turned surprised. "That's great, sweetie! I'm glad they're interested in meeting you."
Danielle nodded enthusiastically. "And Alexander said they're really nice and will love me! He's picking me up at 2 pm on Sunday."
Her mom smiled, looking thoughtful. "Well, we'll make sure you're ready. What are you going to wear?"
Danielle shrugged, feeling a bit uncertain. "I don't know...what do you think?"
Her mom chuckled. "Don't worry, we'll figure it out. I'm just glad you're happy, sweetie."
Danielle grinned, feeling a sense of relief. "Thanks, Mom. I'm really excited about this."
Her mom nodded, smiling. "I can tell. Just remember to be yourself and have fun, okay?"
Danielle nodded, feeling a sense of determination. She was going to make a good impression on Alexander's parents, no matter what.
