They reached the plateau’s far edge just before sunset. From here, the land fell away into a long, narrow valley — its floor carpeted with tall, silver grass that swayed in the wind like water. But it wasn’t the grass that caught Elinora’s attention. It was the ruins. Stone walls, half-buried in earth, stretched in a broken line across the valley. Towers leaned at odd angles, their tops crumbled away, and in the center stood the remains of a great hall, its roof gone but its black pillars still upright. Her wolf’s ears twitched.
