“I’m going to try something different today- an introspective exercise if you will in which you are the doctor, and I am the patient”. The patients first looked around at each other to see if anyone was going to speak first and then at Noah to see how serious he was, then returned their glances at Noah. Charlie Yorn, 22 a firefighter who was struggling with the fact that when his house was on fire, he delayed in running into his own house to save his wife and daughter. “You look exhausted and like you haven’t slept all day”. The course of treatment is when you have two adolescent twins trying to keep it together as well as you are. As soon as Charlie said that Noah wanted to stop the exercise, but if he did that, he would be saying that his own therapy practice wasn’t good enough for him to follow. “They’re still charting unfamiliar territory”. “That you know how to wade through, by sending them to their Aunt Millie’s house, you were effectively saying they were orphans”. Charlie assessed. Assessment: “Stop shouldering the burden of grief for your children.”. They know you loved Renee- you need to put being a doctor on hold and learn to stop thinking as if they were patients and start listening and acting as a father. Take them to places Renee loved to go and admit the hardship to your kids. “Let them know you’re not going to break-if they must”. Noah took the privileged Charlie’s advice and canceled the rest of the day to show Patrick and Penelope what soothed Renee’s savage soul. Noah’s first stop was called Village City where it was mostly artists supporting each other through parts of their lives that were unpleasant. During a manic episode, Renee painted a portrait of her family as regal as they felt and burned it to the crisp. She titled it “the undressing” and instead of being outraged, those noticed by the privileged created an equal opportunity between the rich and the poor when and where there wasn’t any. The twins ask to move closer to their mother’s art. Noah waved in the affirmative" This isn't crazy?". Patrick said. It’s crazy brilliant!". Penelope replied The twins looked puzzled “Why would Aunt Millie say Mom was unwell?”. “To get custody of you”, “Would it have worked?”. “Probably, if you’re Mom’s ghost hadn’t found me”. “Can you show us how to do it? The twins spoke almost in tandem. The twins didn’t bother to look surprised; instead, they looked as if they finally found a home…
