Leo stepped in front of Bella.
He did this without thinking.
His eyes were fixed on the woman standing at the entrance of the bridge.
The underground river flowed quietly beneath them.
The only sound in the chamber was the current of the river.
Leo asked the woman "Who are you?" The woman smiled a little.
"That is a question, " she said.
She walked slowly onto the stone bridge.
Her movements were calm and almost beautiful.
"My name is Elena, " she said.
Bella frowned.
"Just Elena?" she asked.
Elena said, "For now."
She stopped a foot away from them.
"And before you ask, I am not your enemy, " she said.
Leo was still careful.
"Everyone we have met lately has said this, " he said.
Elena laughed softly.
"I suppose you have learned not to trust, " she said.
