Chapter 6: Maddox

Flash back

"Mate is in danger," my wolf whispers as the sudden pain courses through my body.

I really don't know how the Rogues infiltrated the eastern part of the border because no one can pass through the invisible walls of our pack unless a member of our pack. I have been fighting these rogues, for what feels like hours!What the f**k is going on? On top of that ,I can feel my mate's life slipping through the mate bond. My wolf and I start to panick as we think of a way to get to her.

"I need to check on Maria," I mind link my beta, who is in the middle of slicing the throat of a rogue .

"I have it all covered! "He replies as he continues to fight the rest of the rogues.

My vision blurs as I race through the forest, looking for my mate. I told her to stay put in the pack house but she is so f*****g stubborn she decided to leave. Her scent grows stronger as I move further away from the border to look for her. Where the f**k did she go?

As I draw near to her,the strong scent of her blood invades my nose. No f*****g way! I groan to my wolf. My speed picks up as I race toward the scent of my mate's blood.I don't want to think about it, but I can feel the intense pain of my mate and her connection fading away. Nothing is as painful as losing a mate or getting rejected by your mate. I love Maria and she is the only person that has changed my life.

I finally reach her body and shift immediately to my human form to get to her but it's too f*****g late !

Her beautiful brown matted hair sprawls on the ground, and her eyes stare at me while tears stream down her face. But the most painful part of this is seeing her hand clench around her body in pain as blood gushes from her stomach.

"Maria,"I whisper as sudden grief takes over my soul.

I should carry her ! But I can't because I can feel her connection fading. She has multiple wounds all over her body. It's a shock she is still holding on and it's not just her stomach but her chest.My knees collapse Infront of her as the first tear drops from my left eye.

"Maddox,"she whispers as blood gurgles out of her mouth.

"Stop talking,"I growl angrily. ,"I have to take you back to the pack hospital."

"I don't have much time left ,"she whispers weakly ," but I just want- "

"Stop it maria! "I bark and instantly regret the tone of my voice. She hated it when I raised my voice at her .

Maria frowns and then smiles at me weakly. I wasn't expecting that but when she smiles my wolf starts to howl in pain.

" You should move on without me. Find someone that will love you and break that curse ," She says .

"I'm not going to find another person," I clench my hands tightly at the statement

"Please Maddox,"she replies as her eyes start to drift slowly until her body goes limp.

The last piece of thread that is holding our mate bond snaps. A pain I have never felt before flows through my body and everything around me instantly disappears.

"Nooo!!" My voice breaks as my wolf tries to take over

Flash back ends.

I snap my eyes open from the horrible reoccurring nightmare that I have had for months. The pain was real and now I don't feel it anymore. f**k ! This can't be real This little stranger can't be my second chance mate.If t wasn't my wolf I would have rejected her on the spot. But I can't deny the fact that for the first time in my life her presence has calmed my wolf down.

She is completely underweight, but every time she opens her plump lips and stares at me with those big doe eyes. My c**k starts to harden like steel and my wolf keeps pushing me to mark her.

“Don’t you dare reject her Maddox! she’s our f*****g mate!” My wolf barks

"But that doesn't mean I'm going to accept her. She doesn't even know about the curse ! "I sigh in response.

While my wolf and I continue bickering.I push the hospital door open and find Ariella sitting on the bed with a blank stare on her face. She looks like an angel just placed there for me. My wolf purrs when I set my eyes on her but when I start to walk towards her. She starts to flinch and move backwards, which breaks my wolf a lot.

" Are you ready "I ask her with a straight face.

“Please,” she drops her head in submission, “You don’t have to help me. Just reject me.”

" You are stubborn,"I mutter quietly ignoring her painful statement.

"Can you walk? "I ask as I stare into her eyes .

"I can try ,"she whispers as she plays with the hems of her dress.

My little mate gets up from the bed quietly while trying to hide the fact that she is in pain.She winces as she almost falls down from the bed. I sigh as I watch her struggle from the pain. My wolf is already scolding me from me being such an asshole so I reluctantly grab her before she hurts herself again, but immediately our skins brushes against each other.Sparks I have never felt before tingle on my skin.

I discreetly inhale her wonderful scent to calm my wolf and me . She smells so heavenly that everything that was raging in my body starts to quiet down.

"I'm so sorry,"she whimpers ,"Don't punish me ,"

"I won't punish you,"I growl ," Not in that way at least"

What the f**k am I even talking about? I’m supposed to reject her. I only had one mate, and she is not alive.Even though the bond I'm feeling is so undeniably strong.

Fuck, I'm royally screwed!
