Catherine had just finished showering when the ringtone of her cellphone, sitting on the bedside table, began to chime.
She stepped closer to pick it up and saw that her friend, Brad, was calling. Before answering, she sat on the edge of the bed.
"Hello?" she said, finally connecting the call.
"Catherine," Brad’s voice came through.
"Brad, why are you calling?" she asked.
"Your check-up is today, isn't it?"
She nodded, even though he couldn't see her. "Yes," she replied.
