Catherine opened the fridge, her stomach growling with a hunger that refused to be ignored. It was the middle of the night, a time when she frequently found herself wide awake and famished. She ate her dinners faithfully, but her body had other plans during these quiet hours. She knew it was perfectly normal. Her late-night research into pregnancy had prepared her for this. Her mother had also reassured her during their visit, telling her that the first trimester was always the hardest, and that things would smooth out once she reached the second.
