TRISHA'S POV
A rather disturbing scenery.
At least we have a supernatural being that watches over us.
The Moon goddess.
I marveled as I envisioned the full and shining brightness of the moon hanging in the skies.
Could this be what it looks like?
A gift or a curse?
Does this mean the moon goddess is blessing this ceremony? Even without the urn of Ascension?
I sighed worriedly, staring out into the night and praying fervently in my heart for this to end well.
"That's enough, Trisha. Everything is going to be fine," I heard my sister's voice and turned back to look at her, glowing in a golden dress which hugged her prominent curves.
“Would have thought you were the one with the ceremony and not me.”
I said jokingly, appreciating her appearance.
She chuckled nervously. “Nah, obviously I can't take that place because it's all yours.”
“Your pack mates are waiting for you,” she told me, tugging me gently by the hand out of my cabin.
“But the urn of Ascension has been stolen,” I confessed my worries to her.
“What if something else goes wrong?” I asked, fear evident in my eyes.
She stopped to stare patiently at me, drawing me into her embrace.
“You have me. I'm always here for you, sister.”
I sighed. A sigh of relief. Just the very one you have after hearing the most comforting words from a sister.
It was exactly what I needed.
”Thank you Amber. I really don't know what I would have done without you and Thomas.”
“Be rest assured, he has taken some enforcers with him to search for the stolen urn.”
I stepped out of her embrace gently, and we walked together hand in hand to the clearing in the woods.
It was decorated with small bluish lights and flowers.
“This is lovely.” I gasped, looking around at the decorations and the wolves who dressed fancifully to witness their Alpha's ascension, forgetting momentarily about the fear and anxiety.
They were all gathered under the great Oak tree where Oak Pack got its name and the three couldn't have looked more alive than ever.
It was so old, very old that no one exactly knew its origin. Directly under it, on a flat surface of oak wood, is where the urn was supposed to be, and now it was empty of any objects. Close to it was the seat of Ascension for all Alphas after the rite had been fully completed.
“You're here Trisha.” Elder Elijah, one of the oldest wolves and a close friend of my parents came closer and bowed, slightly distracting me from my thoughts.
“Don't think too much about the urn dear, with or without it, the ascension will take place tonight,” he promised calmly.
Though that sounded a little far-fetched, the Urn of Ascension is a symbol of leadership crafted from the Oak wood under whose tree the ceremony will take place and every Alpha to Ascend must drink from this urn as a sign of oneness with and within the pack.
This act in itself was a promise; an oath to be joint with the pack, and it plays an important role in the minds of the pack mates.
So his words didn't calm me much, but I trusted him.
I gave a slight nod, “Thank you, Elijah.”
“I owe your parents to take care of you, pup,” he told me in a solemn voice.
He would be the one to perform the ascension ritual, which is the oath taking. He called the attention of everyone, and we all paid attention to him and then the ascension ceremony began. Amber stood by my side, although I had yet to see Thomas in all these.
I whispered quietly to her “Have you seen Thomas yet?”
“Nope,” She replied curtly. I looked at her. Something was wrong.
“Are you okay, Amber?”
She smiled but it appeared forced. “Of course, sister!”
“What else could go wrong?” I thought within myself as my mind drifted to Elijah’s droning.
“We are all gathered here under this blessed full moon to witness the ascension of Trisha Oakwood, the rightful leader of the Oak Pack.” He paused for effect, scanning across the crowd of eager but quiet wolves.
“This night, we will swear our oath, to protect and obey our Alpha's ruling till we are dust and return to dwell with the moon goddess while she...” He turned to look at me, smiling reassuringly “—in return she will swear an oath to love, protect and rule the oak Pack justly till she turns to dust and returns to the moon goddess.”
He brought out a sharp blade with a snow-white handle and a beautiful etching of runes on it. Elijah joined the crowd and faced me, saying the oath solemnly with the whole of the pack and slicing into his palm as little droplets of blood fell on the earth.
The earth bears us witness on this sacred night.
He handed me the knife gently, and I proceeded to swear my oath.
“I, Trisha Oakwood, the Alpha of the Oakley Pack, swear to love, protect and rule the Oak Pack justly, even to the point of death.”
“Now it's time to ascend into the seat of the past Alpha's as she would also be one today.” Elijah bellowed in a strong voice.
Surprised at this new development, I didn't know he was going to change the routine. I looked at him and revealed my appreciation in my eyes. He smiled warmly.
Finally, everything was falling in place.
I looked over at Amber and beamed, feeling peace in my mind.
She replied with a smile.
“I'm going to ask her what is wrong later,” I thought within even as I took small steps to the seat of Ascension, which was slightly raised off the ground on packed earth.
My face continued to beam out delight and joy as I approached the honorable seat.
And right at that sudden moment, as I was just about to take my place on it, a familiar voice shouted from the crowd.
“Stop that Imposter!”
