Jennifer P.O.V
I woke up in my bed having a small panic attack and I started to cry. How did I end up in my own bed? I was wrapped in a blanket and had hot bottles down both my sides. I got a big fright to see there was a girl sitting in my reading chair in the corner of my room. She was dressed in all black skinny jeans, coat, and boots. She had black hair, blue eyes, and pale skin. “Good, you’re awake. How do you feel?” she asked me, examining my face.
“Who- who are you? How did you get into my house? What happened?” I asked all the questions just came blurting out of my mouth as tears ran down my face. “Don’t worry, you’re safe now. My name is Domonique Marshal. I found you lying unconscious outside the forest when I went for my morning jog. Your neighbor saw me carrying you and told me this is where you live. So I got you in bed and started warming you up – you know hypothermia is a real thing, right? Why do you jog in a short sleeve shirt?” Domonique said, raising her brows at me.
“I usually jog like that – I feel like I’m being smothered if I jog in long sleeves” I replied shyly. “Can I get you anything perhaps? Some coffee? Hot chocolate? Soup? – You know you shouldn’t be alone right now after being unconscious. I am a paramedic and I have checked over you. You don’t have any visible injuries and so on” Domonique stated. “Thank you” was all I could get out. This girl reminded me of someone I just couldn’t place my finger on it.
“Uhm, would you mind if I just have a few moments alone? I think maybe a warm bath would help. But thank you so much for helping me. I don’t know what happened… but I’m glad you were there though”, I said to her thankfully. She just gave me a weird look before she responded; “You shouldn’t be alone out here Jennifer, and I don’t think it is best to leave you alone after everything, but if you insist. Here is my number, please call me if you feel unwell or dizzy.” She gave me a piece of paper with a number on it. I wanted to get up and walk her out, but she refused and said she'd see herself out.
I immediately stood up to go and take a nice hot bath with some bubbles. I lay there for a while trying to figure out what exactly had happened in the woods this morning. How was it possible that none of those black wolves had attacked me? I just then realized I had to be at work today – I quickly phoned Lu-Anne and told her I was sick and that I would see her tomorrow.
After my bath, I got dressed in some sweatpants and a hoody, I made my hair into a messy bun and went downstairs to make myself some coffee and maybe something to eat. As I went through the kitchen I saw some chocolate chip cookies and decided they would fit best with my coffee. I went and sat outside on the rocking chair just gazing at the forest in front of me. I quickly went inside and got a book and a coat and went back outside enjoying the fresh air while reading. However, my mind kept on taking my eyes to the forest not quite feeling at ease. Something was in the forest and something was watching me. I just knew it….
I decided on going inside, locking the back door. Maybe I should go do some grocery shopping as Domonique this morning made me really in the mood for some soup. I put on my scarf and got my handbag. I opted to walk to the grocery store, seeing that it is only a few blocks from my house. When I arrived, I saw the 3 of the all too familiar faces I encountered yesterday. The triplets were here doing shopping as well. I tried my best to avoid them and rather go to the fresh food section on the opposite side of the store.
With just my luck, I bumped into John, who had a huge smile on his face when he saw me. “You should be more careful when walking around with your head on cloud 9”, he said with a teasing grin on his face. I looked away shyly, slightly blushing. “By the red of your cheeks, I would think you were trying to avoid us?” Jason said. I hadn’t even noticed he stood behind me picking up some of the cans of food that had fallen out of my hand. “Maybe a basket would be more suitable when carrying more than 5 items?” Jarrod joked as Jason put all of my items that fell out of my hand in the basket. Damn, why did they smell so good??
Something inside me attracted me to these 3 men and I felt a bit shy, to be honest, wouldn’t it be weird having an attraction to all 3 at the same time? “Cloud 9 again, Jennifer?” John chuckled and snapped me back into reality. “I think we should take these from you and carry your basket – it takes some skill to concentrate when doing shopping” John joked as he took the other items from my hand and placed it in the basket that Jason was carrying.
“Thanks, guys, but I’m sure I’ll be able to carry the basket myself,” I said with a small smile. However, Jason refused to give it to me, so I gave them their wish, and all through the rest of my 13-minute shopping, myself and the guys walked in conversation while I put other items on my list in the basket.
When it was time to check out, Jarrod made quick work of paying for my groceries even before I could get in front of the till. “Thanks, Jarrod, but that really wasn’t necessary, I can pay for it myself really”, I pleaded with Jarrod. Jarrod just shook his head. “No need, you could rather thank me over a cup of coffee, yeah?”
I had no other choice but to agree with Jarrod. I told them that I would meet them at CoffeeHeavan in an hour's time. That would give me enough time to rush home, get dressed nicely, and meet them there. As I was walking home, the triplet’s jeep stopped next to me and Jason rolled down the window. “Why are you walking Jennifer? It’s freezing outside!” he said. Just as I was about to argue, John got out of the back, opened the boot, took my groceries from my hands, and loaded them in the back. He opened the back door for me, looking as silly as always. He puffed his chest up, standing at full attention, and said “Your carriage awaits malady. We will escort thou home the last 4 blocks.”
I couldn’t help the giggle that escaped from my mouth. John looked like he wouldn’t take no for an answer, so I took his hand and got into the Jeep. Jason started driving again and in 2 minutes' time, we parked in front of my house. I wanted to thank them for bringing me home but, before anything could be said, Jarrod rushed past me, collecting my groceries from the boot, and started walking to my front door. I was frozen in my spot just taking in the view before me. “The kettle’s not going to boil if we don’t unlock the front door?” Jarrod said with a sly smile.
I just laughed and walked up to the porch to open the door for them. As we walked into the house, Jason and John stood in the living room admiring the view from my window while Jarrod and I unpacked the groceries. “I was serious, you know – perhaps we should have coffee here, the view from your house is much better than that of CoffeeHeavan,” Jarrod said his body and face only inches away from mine. I could feel his body heat, his scent of musk and fresh air overpowering my senses. He leaned in and I prepared myself for a kiss. However, he flicked on the kettle and whispered in my ear: “A beautiful girl such as yourself shouldn't have to put these locks up” and with that, he loosened my hair and nipped my ear.
