Chapter 2 - Clueless

1301 Words
Sheila’s POV I gasped for air and opened my eyes. I couldn't see anything, there was a piece of clothing covering my face. I lifted my hand and pulled down the clothes when I heard people screaming and running. My eyes are trying to adjust to the lights. I wondered why they were screaming and running away. When my eyes finally adjusted to the lights, there was no one around but a nurse who walked slowly towards me but stood at a distance. “Where am I?” I asked clueless. “What's happening?” Hearing my voice seemed like the cue the nurse was waiting for, so he came closer to me. “You are in Peace Way Hospital, Sheila” He said reading the name on my tag and trying his best to be calm. I tried to stand up but my head felt like a rock and my legs would not move. “Please lay still, you are badly hurt, you were involved in a car crash.“ He said as he wheeled me into a ward in a hurry. “Get the doctor,” he told another nurse who hurried off. In the ward, there were whispers from various angles. “No way! Isn't that the lady that just died” One of the patients said. Before I could wrap my head around the whole situation, I blanked out. The next time I opened my eyes, I was in a more comfortable room. I tried to look around when my eyes met with his, a total stranger, I stared at him, lost in admiration. His golden hair lay backward in perfect steps. I had never seen him before but from the way he looked at me, I knew there was something special about him that I couldn't place yet. “Sheila, you are awake, I'll get the doctor,” he said, leaving. “Sheila?” I thought, then it occurred to me that I didn't even know my name. I can't remember anything about myself. I started to panic wondering who I was and what I was doing here. In no time the doctor came in, checked my vitals, and said I was fine but would need time to recover fully. “With time, she'll recover her memory as well,” he said and left us. “Ehm so” he cleared his throat searching for words “You really can't remember anything?” I shook my head indicating that I couldn't remember anything. “Okay,” he said smiling “This is odd.” “What is?” I asked. “you know, you getting to know me afresh,” he said “My name is Leonard Brandon but you normally call me Leo” He introduced himself to me and told me that he was my fated mate and we were to be married as soon as I rounded up my studies which would have been this year but for the accident. He told me my name is Sheila Thompson and that my father is Alpha Donald Thompson. This was all weird to me. Leo looked at me hoping any of what he had just told me would trigger a memory. I could tell he was a little bit disappointed that I couldn't remember anything but I could also tell that he loved me deeply from the way he looked at me and it made me want to remember every moment I must have had with him in the past, before my accident. I knew they were magical moments. “Where's my father,” I asked. “He went for a meeting of all the Alpha's in White Mountain. Our pack is the biggest and most powerful around here so all the other Alpha's in White Mountain meet here for their annual general meeting. He wanted to be here when you woke up. But not to worry, I have sent word to him that you are awake.” I couldn't wait to see my father, I hoped that seeing him would help me recover my memory. “Tell me everything you know about me” I said looking serious when I noticed that he was staring at me. Immediately our eyes met I turned away but I could still feel his eyes on my body. “Please” I added as an afterthought seeing that he didn't say anything. I didn't need to look at him to know that he was smiling at me now. “Although you seem different, a lot hasn't changed about you. You know we started working on your shying away from my gaze all the time.” He said as he chuckled. “And?” I wanted to hear more about our relationship. “And, yeah, you were getting better, to the extent you started to stumble and fall whenever you noticed I was looking at you,” he said trying to be funny as he plastered a smirk on his cute face. And I just blushed. I tried to sit up and he swiftly came to give me a hand “Hey, easy now” he said. Something about the way he cares about me warmed my heart. “How bad was my accident?” I asked, suddenly remembering the scene at the hospital when I first woke up. “Sheila, it was pretty bad,” he said after a brief pause. “For a moment, I thought I had lost you'' he stammered for the first time, I looked into his eyes and I could almost feel his emotions. “Even before words got to us here from your school, I was already in excruciating pain, and I knew something was wrong. The pain was the last thing I remembered before everything went dark. Although my sister Tyra said I kept calling your name in my subconscious state” He said, managing a smile. “I guess the goddess knew I couldn't handle losing you and so she performed a miracle,” he said. “And your Dad, I just couldn't imagine what would have become of him if anything had happened to you, his only child and heir. You have been the light that has kept him going since after the loss of your mother.” “My, my mother is, is dead?” I asked looking at Leo “I'm so sorry” he quickly said “I shouldn't have brought that up” “No, tell me about her,” I pleaded. “My princess” My Dad, Alpha Donald Thompson's voice came in from the entrance. He walked straight to me, hugged me gently, and kissed me on my forehead. “I'm sorry Dad for the trouble I've caused you,” I said looking at my father. “Don't be my princess. I am just glad you are here with me, by my side. I prayed to the moon goddess to save your life, and I'm glad she did. The doctor said you are responding quickly to treatment, and with our collective help your memory will be back soon.” My Dad said, with a smile on his face and sounding optimistic. “My Beta, Leonard’s father, just linked me that some of the Alpha’s would like to come to visit you. Do you mind?” My Dad asked. “Not at all Dad,” I said, smiling at him. My Dad signaled that the Alpha's should be let in. I was quite disappointed that even after seeing my Dad, I still couldn't remember anything. Shortly after, three men walked in. “Aaahhh” I exclaimed, holding my temple area using my both hands. “What's wrong? What's going on?” my Dad and Leo kept asking. “Call the doctor,” Dad yelled.
