I trudge on in pain and numbness through the thick undergrowth. My hand alternates between pain that lasts for a while then replaced by numbness that goes on for close to an hour.
Was it not for my knife skills I would be dead.
I switched off my mobile phone the minute I entered the forest to avoid being distracted from my mission but now a lot has happened and I pull it out of my pocket using my injured arm and switch it on.
Several messages pop in from people who tried to call me and most notable are several attempts by John. Why would he call me all these times? Is there an emergency?
He calls me just when I am about to call him.
“Hi Antonio.” He says. That alone says that something is amiss. He always addresses me with much funfair.
“HI boss.” That's how I should address
