I'm lying sprawled out on what appeared to be a large bed. Groaning, I try to pick myself up only to fall back after feeling the pounding in my head. I bring the silk blanket over my eyes, blocking out the sunlight and lay there trying to get my bearings. Finally, the headache subsided some, and I sat up and looked around. I was alone, which made me feel a bit anxious as the last thing I remembered was carrying Alice. I sling my legs to the floor and stand up. Massaging my temples, I stagger to the door and open it, determined to figure out where she'd gone. It didn't take me long. However, as I poked my head out, Alice was also poking hers out. Seeing each other, we both laugh.
"Did you see who brought us?" Alice asked. I shook my head. The last thing I remembered was looking for a phone to call Uber. We quickly grabbed our stuff and rushed out, not wanting to run into anyone. I already know the earful we'll get from Alice's family the next time we see them. As we rush out out of the corner of my eye, I think I see the man with the golden eyes, but turning, I see no one there. 'I must have been mistaken'.
Finally, things were back to normal. Or that's what I'd like to say if it wasn't for the dreams. It was frustrating. I could never see him quite clearly, but his eyes always shone through. What made it worse was he never spoke a word. He'd touch me, each caress seeming to sting my skin even when I came close to kissing me, I always woke up, but he never said anything. I wanted to hear it. My name is from his mouth. I could almost taste how it'd sound. It made me giddy, just the thought of it. Somedays, I'd lie awake for hours imagining what it'd sound like.
I started sleeping less and studying more. I could see it was worrying Alice, but I told her I just had a lot of exams coming up. It helped. By being busy, as soon as my head hit the pillow each night, I was out. I'd still see the occasional golden eyes, but for the most part, my dreams became dreamless.
"When's the last time you went out?" Alice asked one day out of the blue. I looked up from my textbook into her soft brown eyes. Scrunching my nose. "I don't know. Awhile." I hesitated to say it. She never asks unless she's already got something planned. "We have to go to this place. Benny was telling me he's been going to recently -" I interrupted. "Benny? Your boyfriend Benny?" "Yes, Benny. He says it's a really fun place with lots of drinks. You'll love it." "Are we going with Benny?" I didn't didn't really want to. I'm glad Alice was happy with him, but he always rubbed me the wrong way. The way he looked at me or other women made me want to gouge his eyes out.
Alice blushed, "No, Benny doesn't want to go. He said it's not really a place you take your girlfriend to it's a place for friends." I raised an eyebrow. Even she couldn't have fallen for that one. Frustrated at my questions, Alice stamps her feet. "You haven't been out in ages. We're going." I hold up my hands in resignation. "Alright, fine. Although I don't trust Benny's taste for bars."
