By the time we finished, it was already 6. Alice had dressed me in a magnificent gold dress. It was a tight heart-shaped cocktail dress that pushed my barely B cups up, making it appear as if I had more bosom than I actually had. The skirt floated down around my thighs, giving me an almost weightless look. I glanced at myself in the mirror, admiring how it accentuated my curves.
"Oh my god, Alice, you really outdid yourself."
She beamed at me, then grabbed my hand and practically dragged me out the door.
It didn't take us long to get to the party. The driver stopped just outside the gate. It screamed wealth. Even from a distance, its magnitude overwhelmed me. I turn to Alice and practically hissed.
"What kind of party is this Alice!"
It wasn't that Alice wasn't wealthy. She was majorly. However, even for Alice, a place like this seemed over the top. All the other parties had been at fancy hotels or her parents' mansion. Alice smiled.
"Surprise! I almost died not telling you. My parents happened to meet the head of the Marlowe family while golfing last month. Apparently, they hit it off, so they invited us to their end of the year bash. It's why I had to bring you. I mean the Marlowes? Riva, can you believe it?!"
I couldn't. The Marlowes we're one of the oldest and wealthiest families in the world. Almost akin to royalty. Hell, some did consider them royalty. Everyone knew if you got in good with the marlowes you were set for life. Getting into their good graces wasn't easy, however. They were very reserved, not ones for stepping outside their social circles. Even if you did manage to meet them, charming them was even harder. It was said they despised leeches and were incredibly loyal to those who managed to get in with them. You never wanted to go against them. Once they bear a grudge, that grudge lasts for several generations.
I shivered "Alice I don't think I can do this."
Her face fell, and she grabbed my hand.
"Please don't leave me. It's supposed to be a big party you've nothing to worry about, and I need someone who can keep my wits about me. To be honest, I'm scared to go alone, Riva. You know what the marlowes are like and my parents are so excited. I don't want to screw it up."
I bite my lip and glance back out the window, realizing we're almost at the door. I had to decide. It was now or never. On one hand, the sheer wealth and nobility scared me. On the other hand, I was a nobody here. What could happen? I groan and turn back to Alice
"Fine but you really owe me this time. Be ready for the most outrageous favor when I think of it."
Alice beamed at me and threw her arms around me, squeezing the air out of me in her hug.
"Oh, thank you! I'll be your slave for the next 10 years if it means you'll come." The car slowed to a stop, and me Alice stepped out.
Gazing up at the door, I'm unable to stop myself from breaking into a light sweat. Then Alice takes my hand knocks, and we're pulled into the unknown.
