It had been three days since she entered Mordrac's keep, and she knew she had little time left. There was word that Astrid's warriors were not far off, and all was set for battle. But she'd had no luck in finding an escape route.  While Mordrac paid her little heed, whenever he saw her he boasted about how much he would enjoy killing her wife. Intent on power and domination, he would let nothing stand in his way. A woman was of little consequence to Mordrac, which was obvious from the way he treated his daughter. She, like a dutiful child, did his bidding without challenge. Vevina supposed it had been no different for her with Robert, but at least she'd learned to be courageous, and in a sense had gained her freedom.
