The diary of Lyla Maddison

First day

Dear diary,

When we reached the school, Kason and I went straight to the office to get our schedule’s. We compared our classes: we have all but 1 class together.

“Looks like we have chemistry, pre calculus, English 101, basketball, and home economics together.” He said while looking at our schedule’s.

“Yeah we do, it sounds like fun.” I smiled.

Nancy walked over to compare her schedule with mine. “We have AP biology, home economics, and English 101 together.”

“That’s exciting, have you seen La’Helah since this morning?” I asked her.

“She had a doctors appointment this morning, so she will be late.” Nancy said while she looked beside me. “Who is this”

“ I’m Kason, it’s nice to meet you.” He said and shook her hand. “I just moved across the street from Lyla.”

“I’m Nancy.”

“He has home economics and English 101 with us.” I stated.

I looked down at my watch and it said 7:20pm. It’s almost time for first period which is basketball for me and Kason.

“We should go to fist period, Kason.” I said and started walking toward the gymnasium and he followed me.

When we got to the gym I introduced Kason to Coach Martian and went to the girls locker room. I changed into shorts and our practice jersey. I put my hair in a ponytail and left.

When I got to the gym I saw Kason standing alone in the corner. I jogged to him and smiled.

“That jersey looks good on you, Lyla.” He said with a grin.

“Well thank you.” I said while rolling my eyes and I grabbed his hand pulling him to follow.

We ran over to the basketball rack, grabbed 2 balls and went to the hoop in the corner. I started to shoot lay ups and 3 pointers. While he stood and watched.

“Are you just gonna stand there or join me.” I laughed and he grinned.

“I don’t have a jersey yet, coach said I would get one tomorrow.” He explained. “And plus the view is great.” He winked.

I blushed and he laughed “someone is laying it on thick.” We both laughed so hard. “Get your ass out here, you don’t have to be in a jersey to throw a ball.”

He came beside me and stared shooting hoops with me. Class went by quickly and the next thing I knew I had to change. I entered the locker room put on deodorant, change back into my jeans/ my top, and let my hair down.

I left the locker room and went to English 101, Kason followed. When we got in the room, Nancy was sitting at the back of the room. She motioned for us to join her so we did.

“Hey,how was basketball practice?” She questioned.

“It was good, I think I’m improving.” I answered.

Before we could talk more, the teacher Mrs. Davis enter the room and the bell rang. The clock said 9:20.

After a morning of basketball, English 101, pre calculus and home economics, it was finally lunchtime and I was starving. When Kason, Nancy, and I walked into the lunch room. We got our food then I spotted La’Helah in the back sitting by herself, and she looked like she had been crying.

We sat beside her, Nancy sat to her left, I sat to her right, and Kason set on my left. Nancy and I gathered her into a big hug. We just sat there for a minute and La’Helah just cried.

“Hey what’s wrong, La.” I asked after I dried her tears.

“Yeah, talk to us.” Nancy joined in while rubbing her back.

“Ok so you know how I had a doctors appointment this morning?” She asked.

“Yeah.” Nancy and I sad.

“Well I found out I’m pregnant and on top of that Alex broke up with me, I’m now pregnant, scared, and alone.” She said sobbing into our arms.

“Hey, look at me you are never going to be alone.” I said while lifting her head to see me.

“I know and thank you guys, your the best.” She said wiping her tears she looked at Kason. “Who is he?” She asked.

"Hi, I’m Kason.” He spoke.

“This is La’Helah.” I told him. “Nancy will you take La to the bathroom to wash her face and then go get food.”

“Yeah, let’s go.” Nancy said and they walked out of the cafeteria.

After they left Kason and I started eating. Then lunch was over before I knew it was 12:45.

After lunch AP biology and chemistry went by quickly. Then Drake met the 4 of us in the hallway to walk home. Kason and I went to my house to study for a chemistry exam at the end of the week.

When we reached my house we set everything up upstairs at my desk. We sat down and read books and made flash cards. It took us 2 hours to finish.

Then went downstairs and got a drink and sat on the couch.

“So, your friends seem nice.” He broke the silence.

“Yeah they are, I mean La was having a rough day today, but she normally is happy and bubbly.”

“That’s ok everyone has bad days.” He said. “Do you live alone?” He asked.

“Not technically but my dad is a Nero-surgeon so I’m alone a lot.” I said. “My mom died a few years ago so it’s just me and him.”

“I’m so sorry.” He said with a concerted look on his face.

“Oh that’s ok I didn’t really have a connection with her.” I shrugged. “What about you?”

“I live alone, since I turned 18 last month.” He stated and shifted closer to me.

“Yeah I turn 18 next month.” I smiled. "Let’s watch a movie.”

We popped in a movie and I set by him to watch it, mainly because I’m cold and he Was warm.

10 minutes into the movie he says “you’re freezing, let me help.” As he pulled me close to him and wrapped a blanket around me. “Better”

“Yes, thanks.” I said and leaned into him.

Kason’s POV

I wonder if she feels the electricity from our closeness. Probably not because she won’t know how special she is until her 18th birthday. But I’m gonna soak up this feeling as long as she will let me.

After the movie, I looked down and saw she was asleep in my arms. I turned the TV off and carried her upstairs to her bed. I laid her down, covered her up, grabbed my bag, kissed her forehead and left.
