Planning for home

I was woken up out of my sleep by the male creature. He looked concerned as if there was something bothering him. “What’s going on?” I asked him. Granted I was concerned with me and him being the only two in the darkness. However, I felt as if he came to me to tell me something. Something he needed to tell me as if trying to give me a piece to this puzzle. “Well,” he said shakily, “I feel I should express why I got so upset with you the other night.” Hell at this point I didn’t even remember what day it was but, with him confirming that there was a day cycle during the time period. He started in with him calm voice. “It never used to be just me and my mate.” He said with tears welling up inside. You could tell it was hard for him to get the words out. Meaning that this was something that has bothered him for awhile. “You see, we used to have a whole clan that we were apart of. Used to roam the woods in search of food and trying to survive.” He started. I could tell, in a way, that he was about to tell me why he doesn’t want to be heard or seen. Why he doesn’t want anyone to know that his clan, which was now more like a group, to become known about thru the area. “One day however,” he continued, “We stumbled upon humans like yourselves. They had some sort of object that throws out a metal dart lookin thing.” He said questioningly, however I knew what he was talking about. “Oh you mean guns. Those are weapons is humans use for killing food for us to eat. At least if you use them right.” I said without thinking and before he got to finish his sentence. “Yes, anyhow. My friend and I were the ones that were set out that day to look for food when we stumbled across these humans. They started firing the.. whatever there called at us. A few shots hit my friend. I remember he screamed out in horrible pain. I didn’t have a chance to go over to make sure he was ok and I never saw him again. I assume he is dead somewhere. I really don’t know. His name was Kurt by the way. Than they started shooting towards me. I ran off, however later they returned. Walked right upon our place we called home and shot almost all of us. My mate and I were the only ones who made it out alive. I dread that day still.” He explained telling the whole story. After he finished his last sentence tears welled up in his eyes. I sat motionless wondering how any human being could’ve done such a horrible deed to his clan. I now understood why he didn’t want anyone to know about him or his mate. The both of them might be hunted down themselves and killed as well. Now that I’ve been around these creatures, for god knows how long. I still have no clue about exactly how long I’ve been here. From what I’ve gathered though, these beings are very gentle giants almost. They wouldn’t harm a fly. Could it be possible, that these creatures are mistaken for the blood thirsty predators that I saw take my wife away from me? Now, me feeling bad for these beings crawled to where the creature was and gave it a hug. I know that sounds crazy, but I felt like the creature just needed to be told that everything would be alright. It seemed to help it to, as his sorrow tears slowly faded away. “I normally don’t get emotional about things but, I felt I should tell you before you did go off and tell someone about us.” He said now feelings better about getting his ordeal off his chest. “Your alright, I promise I won’t tell anyone about this.” I told him. That seemed to calm the beast down and he walked off to a dark corner of the room. I heard some faint ripping noises coming from over where he went. It didn’t sound like normal ripping or tearing though. It was the sound of some sort of flesh tearing from something craving into it. After a little, the male creature came back out from the darkness and handed me a slab of meat. It was rare, and not cooked. I could now tell he went over and grabbed some of the food that was used for him and his mate. “You look hungry, have this. It’s deer meat, if you would like I can start our fire so you can heat it up.” The male said to me. “So you guys hear your meat up at as?” I asked him looking intrigued. I didn’t know that these creatures knew how to cook. “Why yes, it tastes better that way. Plus we don’t get sick off it.” He said, I was still looking in astonishment over that. They even get sick like us if the meat isn’t fully cooked. After a few minutes, not sure how many. I got done cooking the meat over the fire the male made. I started eating the deer and I’m not going to lie. After awhile of not having anything to eat, I chowed down that deer slab of meat. It was so mouth watering and juicy. Some of the bests wild meat I’ve tasted, had I become an animal? I knew I hadn’t but I started to question myself on whether I was still sane or just running off my survival instinct. I voted the ladder in this situation. Now with a belly full of fresh game. I was now awake and wanting to plan how to get home. Maybe, at least back to the road where my Jeep was parked. Few minutes later, the female creature came walking in. She started my way and from what I guessed she was going to try and see if I wanted to leave or at least plan for it. How did she know that I was planning that though. Her voice a second later confirmed my own thought for me. “Are you ready to leave, or what are we doing?” She asked me. Now to remind, mainly because it still creeps me out thinking about it, she is speaking to me thru some sort of mind control communication. I’m still on the other hand talking out loud. “I’m trying to think of how we’re going to do this, however I don’t have any idea of where I am. Neither do I have a clue where my vehicle or anything is around here.” I told her while still pondering thoughts thru my head. “Oh do you mean that wheel moving contraption that is parked close to that gorge I pass daily. I wondered whose that was. That isn’t to far from us. Just down this mountain side.” She told me while eating a slab of deer meat she had just ripped off the deer that was enveloped in darkness in the corner of the cavern. “What color?” I asked her now excited about the news. I could also still remember the color of my vehicle. “It’s a red color, not sure which shade but it looks brighter than everything around it. Sure stands out in the middle of nowhere.” She said still gnawing on the deer slab still. “Yeah it’s a candy red. That’s at least what us humans called it. It’s very bright to the eye and stands out. Like you said, that’s why I bought it. I still remember when my wife and I went to get it.” I said now tears starting down my face. It wasn’t that I necessarily forgot that my wife was killed but, I was to caught up in trying to get healthy. “What’s wrong?” The female asked me as tears poured from my eyes. “My wife came with me on this trip and was killed by those wendigo creatures you were talking about.” I screamed now with every emotion but happiness going thru my every vein. I could feel her sympathy building as I cried my eyes out. “I’m so sorry to hear that. Those things are no good pests of the woods. We’ve been trying to get rid of them for a few years now.” She told me now putting her hand on my shoulder. Her sympathy eminent in her face. I knew there was nothing we could do about it but, now I had wished that me and my wife knew about what was out here in the woods. That there were indeed monsters in the world and universe. “I know there’s nothing we could’ve done but. I want my wife back.” I said starting to calm down. I was starting to get tired I still don’t know where I am. The female creature was understanding though. “You should get some sleep. Tomorrow we are going to get you back to your vehicle.” She told me as she walked out of sight. Shortly after I would fall asleep. Sleeping somewhere in the abyss unknown.
