Ryker's POV
Duke wouldn't settle after we got home.
He paced inside my mind, relentless and close to the edge, every muscle in my body pulling tight with the need to move, to fight, to do something with the energy that had been building since the hallway. The images on the walls. Her face. The way people had looked at her.
"Taking a run," I said as I headed for the stairs, not slowing.
"Before you break something?" Kael said from behind me.
"Something like that."
He didn't try to stop me.
I dropped my things and went straight back out. Shifted before I'd even cleared the tree line, the cold snapping into sharper focus as Duke took over and pushed forward without ceremony.
We found a deer. Brought it down fast and clean. Ate in silence.
It should have been enough.
