I was a little scared the following week to be working along side of Elvis. I admit it. He showed power. And wealth over me. He made me feel timed and I could see he did not like to be out of control.
He did not like having anyone else controlling his surroundings. So how was I ever going to get him to listen to me so that way his health got better? He begged me not to quit. Only because he wanted Ginger to come back in his life.
"Mornin!" Elvis welcomes me into his kitchen the next day.
I glance over at the clock. It was ten am! He was already up! Making breakfast! "Morning" I answer back to him. "How did you sleep last night?" I wonder.
"A lot better. I am slowly getting there" he sighs. "Are you hungry? Want some breakfast?" he offers.
"What are you making?" I ask him curiously.
"I am making boiled eggs. I cut up some fruit, with a variety of them. Grapes, oranges, berries. The eggs will be done soon here" he informs me. I can't help but smile and feel proud of him.
"Look at you! You are doing so well!" I gush all over him.
He smirks looking pleased. "I can cook you know. I have a chef. But she ain't around this damn early in the morning" he chuckles.
"You are a man of many talents" I giggle.
We get plates out. And I make coffee for me. He was having juice. I had chosen an egg and some grapefruit that was cut in half. When we go to the table in the dining room Vernon was already up. Eating his breakfast.
He looks up to see Elvis coming in with me. He looks surprised to see that Elvis was willingly up before noon! It surprised me as well. I sit down at the table with Vernon and Elvis.

"Morning boy" Vernon speaks up greeting Elvis. "Got something planned? You are up early"
Elvis smiles over at me. "No, I have nothing planned yet. I just am up. Changing habits", he says to his father.
"Good to know" says Vernon.
The doorbell rings. I go to get up and get it for Elvis so he could finish his meal. Someone comes in. One of the maids. They whisper something over to Elvis. Elvis's handsome face falls a bit. He nods then is whispering something back the maid. The maid heads up the staircase. Elvis looks a bit upset. The maid comes back speaks with him. They go back and forth at it.
"Something wrong Elvis?" I say softly.
He scoots up to the table at his seat there. "Nothing much. Ginger has requested that her stuff be returned. She had someone come by and pick it up. So, the maid is going to box up some of her belongings" sighs Elvis. He looks distraught.

"Are you breaking up?" I worry.
He shakes his head. "No not yet anyway. She just wanted her things for now. Seeing as we are taking time apart. She wants me to get better" he mutters.
"I am so sorry Elvis. It hurts either way" I mention.
He nods. "I will do anything to get her back. No matter what it takes" he replies to me.
"That is the best way to look at things. I know back when she came for my help, I could tell she really cares for you Elvis. And she just wants what is best for you" I explain to him.
"I know you do. I see that now" he mutters softly.
The maid later on comes down with a box of belongings. She shows Elvis what was in the box. Elvis nods then the maid takes off fast. Elvis hangs his head for a moment. Then he regains his composure.
He begins to eat his food. He says nothing. But I can clearly read his expression. He did not like to be alone. I could tell how alone he felt right now without Ginger around him. He needed someone. I was not a girlfriend. But I could be his friend. If he allowed me to be.

"Elvis?"
"Yes?"
"Ginger will come back. She called me the other night. Checking to see how you are" I remind him.
"She had?" he wonders looking curiously at me.
I nod. "She was asking me about the progress you were making. She did not want to talk to you yet. But she cares. And she is checking in on you" I say hoping to help him.
His blue eyes meet mine. They look sad yet hopeful. "I sure hope that she sticks with me. I will make it up to her. I am not honest" he mutters. "But I want to change my ways"
"That is a great way of looking at things" I agree with him. "After we eat want to take a morning walk?" I offer my time.
He nods. "Sure, I would love to" he agrees.
"Great!" I say happily. "I am glad we are sticking with all this. And keep right on track" I say to him.
He nods. He smiles my way. He did have a great smile. I did not see it very often. His face looked more handsome when he smiled like that. Once his health got better, he was going to be smiling a lot more.
Only because of himself. Not because of me. Or Ginger. But because he put the work into himself. Self-care is the most important thing in life. I had to get Elvis to care about himself.

"Elvis you know what helped me?" I say.
"What?" he asks me.
"Well I needed some self-care for myself time and time again. And I know it helped me. I journal every day. And jot down ideas and of things that I needed to do to change myself. Giving myself an outlook for me" I tell him.
"I never have journaled. But I have read the bible. I used to jot down notes and things. Maybe, if I had time for that" he chuckles.
"Give it a go" I say cheerfully.
Later we soon finish our meal. Then we get ready for a walk. The day was already nice. We start walking around the lot of Graceland. I notice fans were trying to get a glimpse of us.
Peaking out over the fence. I hear cheering and see waving. Poor Elvis could not go outside without being hounded. He just kept on walking with me. Ignoring it all. He had to be used to it.
Elvis stops on the porch of Graceland. He puffs out air. His hands are on his hips. I am pretty winded as well. I was proud of Elvis. "You did great!" I praise him.
"Naw, I only walked a bit. Less than two hours and I am winded out" he jokes.
"It is a start. Then you will be able to do more and more" I promise him.
"You are not even breaking a sweat" he laughs.
"Trust me oh I am" I giggle.
"You are glistening" he jokes.
I smirk. We are having a good time. I was glad we were creating a friendship finally. That was a real start.
