Can't sleep

1214 Words
That evening, I could not sleep. I was nervous and excited. My brain kept running through different scenarios. After today's events and starting my new job tomorrow... my first day as a lecturer in human anatomy at the local university. And now... well now I know werewolves exist...the questions just kept coming....do they have different anatomy... they must have, to be able to shift. Or was it more micro anatomy variation? Would there be werewolves in my class? What does Mister Soulmate do for work? What are the werewolf customs ?? Do female werewolves work? My aunt is a stay-at-home mom.... was that the norm... what should I wear tomorrow... is my work outfit okay to meet the alpha with?? What should I wear? Is Mister Soulmate nervous?? And the tingles?? Is it a chemical or magical? How does a person do magical experiments.... is magic real or just werewolves... what else is real?? Does the tooth fairy really exist? If so, is it the tooth fairy we were taught about or is there a dark side like the Brother Grimm books? What is the catch? What must I be careful of? It sounds way too good to be true... right? Lying in bed I realize just how little I know of the world... the magical world. I would hate to make uninformed decisions... an emotional decision... the wrong decision... I am sure there must be a book about it somewhere. Maybe tomorrow I can ask to have access to their library and do some research and get information. I feel a book is not biased. Well, not so much as a human, or is it a person or maybe a consciousness?? I do not have enough information. And I won't have to ask as many questions because, truth be told, I don't even know where to begin with the questions. Luke being a werewolf is a no-brainer. That doesn't change anything in our relationship except I wouldn't be playing hide and seek with him anytime soon... or maybe I can learn some tricks on how to hide from werewolves and finally win him at the game... mmmm possibilities. .. But my main worry was this mate bond... what was expected of me?? What does it actually mean?? Sure there are tingles and you get a soulmate?? But does it mean that I just pack up and become a housewife?!? Nothing against housewives. I could totally rock being a housewife. I just want to know what it means, logically, for my future?? Not looking at love stuff?? Just the game plan. I had totally had a game plan coming here. I was going settle in, join a running club, make friends, do great at my job, hopefully, meet someone, date, marry, and then have kids... Will we have kids or pups?? And if I have allergies ... could I be allergic to my pups s***h kids? Wait. Breath. No You are not allergic to Luke, so you are not allergic to werewolves. Okay, one less worry. But I am allergic to cats. Are there WERECAT too??? Could I be allergic to them? So it is possible the times I sneezed because of a person's " perfume" was it actually just a werecat in disguise? Oh, the possibility......... This new world was scary yet fascinating. I couldn't hold it much longer and stood up and woke up Luke. I refuse to suffer alone, especially if he can answer my questions. It was only 2 am anyway. "LUKE" I said loudly, entering his room in my PJ. "What?" He jumps momentarily frightened, only to see it me and fall back into bed. "Why are you waking me up???? ..." "I can't sleep.." I guiltily admitted going to sit down on his bed next to him. "Sooooo, you stopping me from sleeping. Seems fair" "Yes, as you can answer questions that I can't". "It's about the wolf thing, right?" "Yip". "And your brain running wild with stupid questions." He knows me too well. "Umm yes, but not stupid. As it is my future and my game plan " "Sure, whatever you say." "Now tell me so I can sleep again." "What should I wear tomorrow?" "Really??, that first question? "Well, we meet an alpha, which I think means the boss man and never done that, so what is appropriate?" He chuckles "Yes, it's the boss man. Just wear your work outfit. We can go straight after class." "Okay.... And tell me about mates without the emotional stuff... Like, can I work, what is expected of me and stuff? How does it work?" "Always the scientist I see." He chuckles and then continues to answer me. " Well, there is this magical bond that you can accept or reject. You have to physically say you reject their full name. Talking in the third person, of course, to make it official, not only for law documents but for scarred bonds, so you don't accidentally do it when you are mad. It rarely happens. Rejections I mean, but I am telling you so, you know, you don't have to be forced into it. You can break the mate bond. But be wise about it. A mate bond is what people call a soul mate and wolves only get one most of the time. Special cases get a second chance, mate. Anyway, otherwise they have to find love like humans do. It's just the goddess playing matchmaker. She helps us find the one but actually, you choose if you want to make it work with the person. And yes, you can continue to work. We live in a modern world regardless of the magical side... what will be expected of you... ummm nothing a boyfriend wouldn't expect of you, just don't mess with other guys now that you have a mate... you kinda like dating him unless you reject him or marry him. Wolves do not share and are jealous. Like how won't share my food and how a male gets over his mate." I couldn't help but laugh. Luke does not share his food. Like not ever... He would rather give me his kidney than a French fry. "What else do you want to know?" "I think I am okay for now. Thanks, Luke." I stood up to leave, then Luke said "Don't worry, I am with you every step of the way." "Umm, the magical world stuff. Is there anything I need to know? Or should be careful of..." He just smiled "We will take it one step at a time so as not to overwhelm you. I am sure we can get a stupid book for you to explain everything to your super nerdy brain so that you can understand it. With no emotions and stuff." "Shut up, I said playfully and" smacked him with a pillow. "Oh no, the big bad human is bullying me." He screamed in fake desperation... I couldn't help but laugh at his antics. I did feel calmer, knowing there was a way out, but also that Luke got my back. I yawn as my body's tiredness catches up with me. "Good night, and thanks. This chat really helped." "Of course, nerd, someone has to make sure you stay on the right path."
